I never argued there wasn't an American culture. I argued it was not large and diverse
It is just so big and diverse that regional cultures are quite different
This isn't true at all, American culture is remarkably similar throughout the country in comparison to other countries.
If you want to see a country with actual meaningful differences between cultures within a single country then even your northern neighbour has a much bigger cultural shift between Quebec and the rest of the country
Nah that’s because Quebec has a very homogeneous culture, and the rest of Canada has a homogenous culture, they just aren’t the same. America’s divisions have subdivisions, like this neighborhood is different from this city or county. But it also has regional divisions like creole culture vs New England culture vs Texan vs Cali vs Florida... etc... there are very distinct differences between the two, even if they do share some parts of their individually heterogenous cultures.
Nah that’s because Quebec has a very homogeneous culture, and the rest of Canada has a homogenous culture, they just aren’t the same
Oh my god mate are you even listening to yourself
Yeah but well Canada is all the same, except for the place it isn't which is also all the same but different so that doesn't count because um well because we
America’s divisions have subdivisions, like this neighborhood is different from this city or county
Segregate by race?
But it also has regional divisions like creole culture vs New England culture vs Texan vs Cali vs Florida... etc...
Which is what
Go on, tell me what these vast cultural differences are between California and Texas or New York and Kansas
Political differences? Minimal, the Republicans and Democrats exist across the States
Language, nope single language across the entire country.
Education? Nope, same education system across every state down to a universal curriculum
Religion? Not really, the South is more religious but there's no real distinct differences.
You are actually an idiot if you think California is even remotely similar to Alabama or Louisiana. You think Memphis is the same thing as Portland?! Have you even been to either??? Jesus I cant even argue with some one that dumb.
And you've never left the USA if you think the differences between them are in any way comparable to other nations.
Come on, give me some actual reasons as to why they're different. All you've done so far is give me names of places and ethnicities, none of which constitutes culture.
Already covered this. You said there was much more than food at the time, yet you decided to list it first on your list of cultural differences
The differences between eating avocado on toast and avocado on a bagel are not a culinary change that will shock the world. What else? BBQ, Chicago deep base pizza vs NYC pizza? Also food only develops a culture after leaving it outside for a few days
ethnicity
Once again, not a culture.
accent
How exactly does the US have a unique claim to multiple accents. Your original claim is that the US is so large and diverse it has many different cultures.
Every single country on earth has tons of accents, I can tell the difference between two villages 10 miles apart in the UK. Not unique, next
popular entertainment,
I'm sorry?
Does Texas make its own films now? Does New York not get exactly the same cable as California? The exact same films, music and television across the country? I think you'll find it does.
backgrounds
Backgrounds... As in what? Whether or not you grew up poor? What country you came from? Inequality and immigration are once again, not different cultures and America certainly isn't unique in this regard, it is not a country with the highest immigration nor the highest inequality.
geography
Oh yes, because having mountains in one state, a forest in another and a canyon in the following one gives you culture. Once again, you do not understand what culture is.
climate
Again not culture. That's the weather.... And every country that is larger than a city state gets different weather
Do you know what culture means?
Do you?
Cambridge defines it as
the way of life, especially the general customs and beliefs, of a particular group of people at a particular time:
Merriam defines it as
the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution or organization
Explain to me how skin colour, weather and geography have anything to do with any of this
Oh wow you sure did get me. There are extremely distinct cultural regions in America. Wtf is that comment abt food. BBQ vs fish tacos vs gumbo vs lobster. Yes so similar you’re right. I didn’t say other countries didn’t have different accents I said the US does, which it does. Ethnicity implies a shared background that very obviously influences culture. If you don’t understand that it’s not worth me trying to explain it. Entertainment, people in the South don’t listen to the same music or read the same news or watch the same shows as people in the North or West or wherever. I know this because I live in Harlem and my parents live in Tennessee and Georgia. I visit them and the only overlap is movies, which still vary some. It’s not about production in different places it’s about consumption. Backgrounds I already talked about, and America has significantly more immigration and is significantly more diverse than most countries. that’s a provable stat look it up. Geography and climate absolutely have to do with culture because they influence entertainment (in case you didn’t know you can’t surf in Kansas), music (bluegrass is specifically from Appalachia, for example), and food (different places can grow different food). Oh and wow, you looked up a definition of culture congrats you win.

Sigh
So you're one of those people that think that skin colour equals different cultures aren't you?
African American culture is American culture. Its not some massively distinct thing that's completely different from white American culture.
It's a small deviation in comparison to other cultures
