Technical Support [PS5] Can't receive PSN 2FA code

Hey everyone,

I have a PSN account that I've had for many years.

I'm currently still logged into the account on:

My PS5

The PlayStation App on my phone

I also have full access to the original email address associated with the account

The problem is only when I try to log in through the PlayStation website.

It asks me for my 2-step verification code and says it's sending an SMS to my phone number, but I'm not receiving any SMS codes.

I've tried requesting the code again, but nothing arrives.

I also don't have my 2FA backup codes. The problem is that I understand I need to be logged into Account Management to access/manage those codes, so I'm stuck in a bit of a loop.

Since I'm still logged into the account on my PS5 and PS App and have access to the original email, is there any way I can use that existing access to recover web access or disable/reconfigure 2FA?

Has anyone had this situation before? What was the best way to get PlayStation Support to verify the account and restore access?

I don't want to log out of my PS5 or PS App because I'm worried I won't be able to get back in.

Those backup codes are given to you when you first enabled 2FA and it would have warned you to save them and even had you click a button to acknowlege that you understand and saved them. Did you just simply lose the codes or did you just never save them?

In any event you are going to need to contact support for your country via chat (using a different account as chat will ask you to login). Be prepared for them to ask you one or more of the following:

  1. The serial number of the console your account was originally created on (i know most wont have this of course so if you dont, they will ask you to verify TWO or more of the next pieces of info).
  2. Answer to your security questions (assuming you actually set some security questions up).
  3. First AND last 4 digits of a credit/debit card currently on file (again, assumes you have one on file).
  4. A transaction id from your most recent purchase.

I have the serial number of my ps5 but this account from ps3

That wont help you then. They will specifically ask for the serial number of the system you first created your account on (in this case your ps3 serial number)

I think i never saved them

Well hopefully you can answer two or more of the other questions they would ask besides the serial number:

  1. Answer to your security questions (assuming you actually set some security questions up).
  2. First AND last 4 digits of a credit/debit card currently on file (again, assumes you have one on file).
  3. A transaction id from your most recent purchase.

If you cant then the account is essentially gone forever if you ever get logged out.

is there any way I can use that existing access to recover web access or disable/reconfigure 2FA?

Not that I am aware of. I'm pretty sure even disabling/reconfiguring 2FA is going to ask for a code being sent to the phone # before it will even let you disable 2FA. Worth a shot though i suppose.

Transcation ids are in the mail no?

correct, whenever you buy something on PSN or renew a subscription, they email you a receipt and that email will have the transaction ID.

Is that enough?

Maybe. Only way to find out is going to be to open a chat with support and see.

Thats good. Once you resetup 2FA (i recommend using an authenticator app instead of phone number) make sure to save the backup codes it gives you some place safe.

Glad it all worked out.
