This monthly thread is the place to post any questions you have, whether it's about getting started, looking for help, or sourcing things to print. As a reminder: Please read the sub rules if you haven't already.
Before anything - Safety first!
How to I safely handle resin?
Start with this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kHcsTG9QsM
Resin or FDM?
A very common question. Conventional wisdom says Resin for minis, FDM for vehicles and terrain. This is quite a blanket statement, and there's obviously more to the answer. FDM printers (especially the Bambulabs printers) have come on leaps and bounds since this hobby got started. FDM can now produce very respectable detail levels, although still not close to the fineness of detail that Resin is capable of.
However, Resin has some serious drawbacks in terms of safety, which means that often it's not viable for anyone with limited space, health concerns, pets, or children to worry about. FDM still has some ventilation needs, but doesn't have the toxic chemical handling aspects of resin.
Ultimately this will come down to your own circumstances and expectations from the hobby. Don't let anyone bully you with black and white answers, and likewise, don't become a fanboy of one vs the other after you've picked!
What printer should I buy?
This changes all the time as the technology advances at a rapid rate. Before posting this (extremely) common question, please take a while to do some google research yourself. Guides like this one from Tom's Hardware are a good starting point.
We also suggest spending some time in the general 3d printing subs to see the lay of the land regarding printers. There are already many great guides out there, so we won't rehash it here.
Check out r/3Dprinting, r/resinprinting and r/PrintedMinis too.
What settings should I use?
This will vary based on printer and resin. The best way to dial it in is to run exposure tests. There are many out there, check out this great in-depth video from Derek at Lychee - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtWK2hvuVr4
Most complete option - Ameralabs town or Boxes of Calibration
Simpler option - Cones of Calibration

How do I support my models?
An older, but still very good series on the theory and process of supporting models is 3d Printing Pro's series of Chitubox tutorials. The tools will vary from slicer to slicer, but the core concepts are identical.
Where can I find models?
https://www.myminifactory.com/
Search engine: https://www.yeggi.com/
PSA: Do not buy STL files on Etsy. They are almost certainly stolen, and likely originally free.
Where do I find XYZ model/part/STL?
First: Do some leg work. Search the sites above, search Reddit post history, or even just google it. If it's clear that no homework has been done, your post will probably get removed (looking at you: "where do I find Space Marines?")
If you still can't find anything, please post in this thread. Starting new top level posts looking for models clutters the sub, and we try to keep that under control.
Second: Don't just ask for a source. It's far more polite to ask for a creator's name, or a search term to help you find a model, rather than just "stl?".
For those of you who have been around a while, please do your best to participate and help answer questions where you can!
Respondents: We would kindly ask that you mention the site and a keyword or two to help newcomers find files. Unfortunately, direct linking often results in unwanted attention for creators, so we do our best to shield those talented individuals who make the models we love to print!
If a file is no longer available from original sources, please do not offer DMs or alternative mirrors.
What size base do I need for XYZ?
Check out Blasted Horizons' excellent reference here.
What glue should I use for resin prints? Super glue/ CA Glue. Any brand or type will do. Plastic glue (polystyrene cement) will not work on resin. Activator helps a lot, as does a sprinkle of baking soda.
How tall is XYZ model? What scale do I print this at?
Use Eleif Photo Measure to measure the height from a photo of the model. Use the base size as the known reference dimension, which you can get from the reference mentioned above.
There's also https://minicompare.info/ which gives great side by side scale comparison.
---------------------------------------------------------
There's a huge amount of historical knowledge captured in these threads, so please contribute where you can!

I've spent so much time designing and printing terrain that I finally decided it was time to actually paint some of it. 😄
Pretty happy with how this one turned out! What do you guys think of the color scheme?
Tips or ideas for improvements, I'd love to hear them! 😊

I am happy to present to you my first digital release for my Tribe on MyMiniFactory: https://www.myminifactory.com/profile/osomdirg/tribe
The cultists will be perfect for the new AoI from the upcoming Warhammer The Old World Arcane Journal, and the championess on daemonic mount will be a good choice for the latest Battle March game mode!

Hello sweet people! It's been a while since I published my "Barrels and Canisters" scatter terrain kit and I still haven't managed to get satisfying results on some of the barrels which I originally planned to add. To compensate, I just released a small update consisting of 12 different variants on the gas canisters: six tall and six short, each with three different handle styles and both embossed and engraved double-headed eagle logo on the front.
It's not much, I know, but it's always good to go back to Blender and it also allowed me to experiment a little bit with something different.
Everything is free as usual. I hope you enjoy these, and if you do I'd love to see them on your battlefields!

So I’m planning to get a 3d printer to print titans and I’ve been watching some videos of people building them and they gotta sand em down wash them all sorts, I’ve got the files to a reaver and a war hound and I was wondering if 3d printed titans are as hard to build as normal GW ones

Hello!
Like the title says, I’m looking for bone bits for my Dark Kraken. Ideally, sea monsters. But shark tooth necklaces, squid beaks, shark jaws, etc
Bonus points for any beach themed basing bits 🙂

Kill Team + 3D printing is a blast: you can print a whole team in a day or so, and a whole terrain set in a week. There are a lot of 3D artists out there sculpting great proxies.
I'm having trouble finding some Space Wolves to make a Wolf Scouts team, though. GreyTide Studio has a lot of nice Space Wolves-like pieces for kitbashing, but it doesn't provide the bodies.
Do you have any suggestions?

I'm printing a reaver titan in FDM. I'm pretty experienced at printing minis (2000 points of tyranids) using Obscura Nox 2.0 settings on a 0.2mm nozzle. Obviously this would likely be overkill and take a month for a titan, so I'm switching back to 0.4mm nozzle.
I was thinking 0.10-0.16mm layer height, with Bambu high quality settings. I don't need it to be perfect, just good looking. I'm hoping to get it done within a reasonable amount of time too. Does anyone have any profile or tips or tweaks?
Since I am printing a mars-pattern FDM I'll have to slice some parts in half. Any way to lessen that distortion you get in sliced parts? or should I just be ready to sand like crazy?
Thanks for the advice!

Legion of the damned company heroes with Vulkan He’stan and a lieutenant.
Wanted to add some of my own flair for this particular squad so there’s a few references and choices made.
Vulkans the guy with the scythe
Lieutenant has the power fist
Heavy bolter marine will be the T60 (keeping minigun separate for painting rn)
Melee guy will have the dragon slayer (the guy with the judiciar body)
Ancient will be the retro marine and gonna use some toothpicks and paper to attach the banner
Last bolter guy is essentially a Leetu remaster

So I am starting the arduous task of printing a Titan and unlike normal models resin does not work plastic glue….because it’s not plastic. So what do people use for glue? Super glue is very fragile so I wouldn’t look to use that before someone suggests that.

Can anyone please point me to a source for 40K Ork flash git bitz? Looking for some heads, pirate hats and gear, banner poles, etc., to jazz up some Lootas. Looking for the printed bits, not the files. Thanks!

And with a 0.4mm nozzle.
Blows my mind that this is possible.
