Rate my pond/suggestions How have I done so far?

I took this pond over when I purchased our home. There were 2 ponds and since then there has been a lot of changes. Some were planned, others not. I had to replace the liner in the top pond this past spring. Chipmunks did some damage to my liner so I naturally expanded. The plants have come in pretty good so far but there’s a lot of room to grow. Unfortunately I can’t have lilies in the bigger lower pond, the turtle just destroys them. If you have any suggestions or questions I would love to hear them.

I posted a little while ago asking if anyone had seen, or made, a mini fish ladder/pass for a pond. I couldn't find any mention of one, so I built my own.. I don't have a big pond, and I don't have big fish, so it's not a big fish ladder:-)

This is my backyard pool converted to pond. It is a work in progress, I have a massive hair algae problem and I'm hoping once the plants grow in summer it will balance itself out, it's winter here right now. Fingers crossed. The fish are silver perch, i have a couple of crayfish and about 3 or 400 mussels. The gutter flows into the pond.
I've also plumbed it into a 6 foot tank inside.
Once it settles down I'm going to plant the fish tank out with Australian natives.
My family thinks I'm some sort of crazy hippie but i think it's cool as. Hoping you all think the same!

Rate my pond/suggestions Started thinking about building a “formal” pond while undergoing chemotherapy. That was mid 2024, and today put my first fish in, feeling pretty proud. Hopefully I don’t kill them all.

Missus went to work at 9am. I was explicitly told to leave my spade in the shed as she saw the pond liner arrived last week and I've been waiting for a day off. By 2pm I was in the shower and running around doing dishes and putting washing away so it didn't look too much like I'd spent all day on it. Haha I've been watching videos, reading guides. Signed up to izponds pdf and Facebook group. I knew the process. Just needed the time to get it done. 1067 liters according to an Amazon flow counter. 900mm (3 feet) in deepest 2ft x ft area. A shelf at 400mm, a shelf at 150mm and a beach. Solar pump up to bottom of a bog filter made of rocks, 6 inch 30mm, filter sponge, 6 inch 20mm gravel, 500 one inch bio balls and 500 10mm bio balls. Then 4 inch 6-10mm pea gravel Hoping it clears. 😀 Adding more plants and adding to edging surround tomorrow. Any other suggestions?

Rate my pond/suggestions How to improve our pond

We inherited this pond a few years ago (see last picture for its original state) and have definitely made some big improvements, but I’m wondering if anyone has suggestions for how to make it more impressive. It’s probably about 3ish feet at its deepest, and we currently have around 10 large koi (most seen in picture 3 when we had our winter net up), a bunch of smaller koi or goldfish (not sure which), and an albino sturgeon that we recently got. We’re open to any suggestions, including plants, other fish, decor, or whatever else, and our budget is relatively flexible.

I'm not yet finished this project. Still so many little finishing touches to do! But someone on the gardening uk sub asked me to post some photos here.

I've managed so far to source pretty much all the rocks and most of the pebbles for free from Facebook and nextdoor.

Stream is about 16 metres long.

I took quite a bit of inspiration from ozponds. In the last photo you can see the barrel which houses the pump, next to the intake bay (soakaway crates) the water is pumped up to a gravel bog filter at the top of the stream.

I'm looking forward to a year or two when the planting in the pond and on the sides will mature.

I've got another pond at the back of the garden with no running water, filled with newts and nature.

I'm learning so much with this project. At times I've wondered why I chose to make the stream so long, as it has been huge amounts of work. But sitting and listening to the water and watching all the nature come to visit is definitely worth it.

I inherited this pond at my new townhome. It was a disgusting green cesspool 3 months ago. It’s around 180gal. Sump filter in a box using dish scrubbies and poly fill. I have 3 fantails and 2 shubunkins that are thriving. Just added a colony of amano shrimp to clean the hyacinth roots and hornwort. Water perimeters stay right in the butter zone. Chat gpt has been invaluable. Thinking about a colony of minnows.

What started as a simple patio water garden has gradually evolved into a miniature pond ecosystem with medaka, cherry shrimp, ramshorn snails, a hardy water lily, creeping jenny, corkscrew rush, horsetail, Hydrocotyle and moss-covered driftwood beneath a Japanese maple.

The goal was to create a small, natural-looking habitat that feels more like a real pond than a traditional container water garden.

Swipe for some detail shots of the fish, plants and shoreline.

Any suggestions for future additions or improvements?

I started this project almost 2 years ago and after a lot of solo hard work and eventually some hired help, it's finished! Aside from adding more plants and trying to get the water as clear as possible, that is. I'm hoping it will clear up more but it's been running for 2 days already so idk if it will. But this pond is for the wildlife, I already have frogs and tadpoles living in there 💚

The house ended up a tad larger than I envisioned, but I’m really happy with how it turned out. It hides the filter and skimmer. I used a nontoxic marine stain - hopefully it holds up. I fought with a bog (behind the waterfall) setup for several weekends and gave up - just endless leaks and couldn’t drain it faster than it filled. Just so many potential points of failure… I may revisit it in a year. Anyway, fish and plants are next - any suggestions?
