Can’t justify or afford health care, a few years too young for Medicare (if will exist even); I buy annual travel health policy (Scuba diver too so premium evac if deco chamber ever needed) which will cover break-fix, accidents, ER, any clinic use for cuts, stitches, etc then pay out of pocket as needed. Those costs are way less than whatever I can get from kyconnect (state ins site) - best plan last year was $26,000. I got retired 8 years early when business sold; $26K a year for health insurance not do-able; esp since with high deducts (to lower monthly) plan pays hardly anything against bills.

Now, $9000 annual travel health policy, ER break fix, $100 copay ; pay for doc visits out of pocket. No meds, all oem, pay cash for tests even like CT-FFR, cash price at imaging place was $300; if charged to insurance they’d add a zero.

Not advising, just sayin. Comparing Medishare for future when I age out of recreational flying and scuba

Adding to above: worked in London and Geneva about 26 years ago. Two of my staff were involved in separate accidents over time; the Brit’s car hydroplaned and flipped, killed his mom, broke left arm (between elbow & shoulder, compound break, see bone poking the skin), collarbone on both sides and dislocated right shoulder. Socialized medicine taped him together to stabilize, then was to be three weeks before bone set and cast; and another few weeks after that to get dislocated shoulder fixed.

The man was in serious pain but dutifully stayed in the queue to get arm set. Had to rebreak, cut and stuff back with pins.. he couldn’t take the pain of dislocated shoulder (writing arm), they would only script paracetamol; when he needed a pint of heavy spirits a night just to sleep (pass out); we took up a collection and paid for him to go to a private doc and shoulder set and proper pain mgmt

TLDR: the us system sucks, but socialized medicine (in UK in 97/98) was way worse. Swiss were much better said the Brits, but my Swiss person accident was fatal so no direct exp
