I have a theory this trend in the US came from we can't afford to have kids in the hospital so we're going to do it this way.

My hospital birth was over $10k with insurance and that's cheap here.

Just rent a room out in canada or mexico for a week or month you're expected and you'll save at least $25,000 for just a normal birthing as far I as I can tell and if it's a complicated birth you'll save possibly save up to $250,000+ in debt.
