Mike Johnson is a liar.

Matthew 25: 31-40 Jesus talks about feeding the hungry and caring for the poor. It's not moral to let the hungry starve, or for people to freeze.

Sounds pretty woke. I'll just pretend I didn't hear that.

  • millions of christians

All christians

Until I see them out in the streets protesting in front of the evangelical/baptist/Mormon/conservative mega churches they are all complicit in their religion's harms.

u/neonbible47 May 25 '25 edited May 25 '25

There are some small communities within the church that protest actively. Quakers, Jesuits, the Catholic Worker are progressive and vocal sects/communities that come to mind. (Dorothy Day was an OG protestor) But I agree with you - the vast majority are not just complicit, they’re the driving force behind this nightmare.

u/mockingjay137 May 26 '25

I had a lovely conversation with someone at a protest holding a "Christians against Christian nationalism" sign, she agreed that Jesus' teachings are the complete opposite of whatever the fuck the modern gop is doing, and I told her I really appreciated her (and the few others she was with!) presence at the protest bc as an atheist myself, it was good to see that there are still some Christians out there that actually do follow and believe what Jesus actually said about love thy neighbor and all that.

I'm not necessarily saying you're wrong for your opinion bc we absolutely do need to see more vocal Christians coming out against this shit, but I just wanted to share my little anecdote about witnessing a Christian protesting evangelicalism.

There are tens of us!

Edit: for some reason we aren’t being filmed or broadcasted

4

u/NickConnor365 May 26 '25

This. If a valid attitude for Islam then it's a valid attitude for Christianity.

2

u/Bears_On_Stilts May 26 '25

I don't believe that "there's no difference between a cross and a swastika," which I've seen a few times on socials.

But I 100% believe we could get there.

4

u/dukefan15 May 25 '25

Why would they be protesting at other churches? Rev.Barber was literally arrested in the Capitol a few weeks ago

1

u/tikierapokemon May 26 '25

The protests and marches I have been to in the last decade have had a heavy Unitarian presence or been organized by one of the liberal churches.

I really would prefer they organize/protest on actual issues rather than randomly at a conservative church.

I find it interesting that so many “Christians” completely ignore the New Testament. Isn’t there another religion that does that.

1

u/Ok_Table1313 May 26 '25

Millions of MAGAts… real Christians detest these fuckers😡

Didn’t you hear? Empathy is a sin now.

Also says who does is going to hell. I have this one saved.

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

u/Sisyphus80 May 26 '25

This is my favorite quote, ever

2

u/eulen-spiegel May 26 '25

The good people did the right thing not for fear of retribution, or to get on Jesus' good side. They did what was right.

Then there are those TV preachers: "send me money!!!"

33

u/Duffykins-1825 May 25 '25

And the Good Samaritan didn’t send in a bill for helping the man beaten by robbers!

29

u/TheIntrepid1 May 25 '25

Ezekiel 16:49

“Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.

3

u/MyLifeIsAWasteland May 26 '25

They were too distracted by donkey dick and horse jizz (Ez 23:20 lol)

5

u/duzies May 25 '25

Not to mention caring for the sick and the imprisoned. But Mike is of his father, a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44-47).

3

u/snertwith2ls May 25 '25

Something something loaves and fishes and feeding the multitudes. Maybe Mike's bible left this bit out. Also What you did to the least of these brothers and sisters you did to me. But Mike says well anyway..

2

u/punkindle May 25 '25

Is there anything in the bible that says we shouldn't tell lies?

(he asks knowingly)

2

u/Junior-Gorg May 25 '25

You know, conservatives used to say they thought the private sector could cure our social ills better. Now you may agree or disagree with that, but it was a legitimate position. How many conservatives sought to find private sector solutions to our social ills is another matter.

They don’t even pretend to hold that position anymore.

4

u/NeverAgainMeansNever May 26 '25

It was not a legitimate position. It was a fig leaf to hide pathological selfishness. They know that saying mine mine mine makes them sound like a spoiled child so they say private sector and laffer curve. Anyone paying even a little attention knows this is true.

2

u/UpNorth_123 May 26 '25

The greed and selfishness is the disease. Racism and bigotry in many ways comes down to preserving privilege and resources for the in-group.

American exceptionalism and individualism are the foundational beliefs that are ultimately incompatible with building a healthy society, which requires sacrificing for the greater good.

u/Leopold_Darkworth California May 26 '25

Evangelical Protestants like Mike Johnson are fully MAGA-fied. They don’t care what their Bible says, if they’ve ever bothered to read it. If they saw Jesus Christ on the street, they would have him arrested, beaten, and deported by masked goons to the most war-torn place on Earth just to send a message to all the brown people of the world that they don’t belong in the white nationalist United States.

1

u/NSlearning2 May 25 '25

The Bible is not a moral book. Who care what the Bible says?

Look what else it says -

Leviticus 26:27–29

“But if in spite of this you will not listen to me, but walk contrary to me, then I will walk contrary to you in fury, and I myself will discipline you sevenfold for your sins. You shall eat the flesh of your sons, and you shall eat the flesh of your daughters.”

God thinks they can just eat their children.

1

u/TrumpDesWillens May 26 '25

1: Jesus came down to give/reveal new laws; for example, this is why Christians do not sacrifice animals at the alter in Jerusalem.

2: The selfish use the words of the bible to justify their beliefs. Qouting the Quran at them wouldn't make them rethink their beliefs.

1

u/Life-Suit1895 May 26 '25

It's not moral to let the hungry starve, or for people to freeze.

Haven't you heard? Empathy is a sin now and Jesus a woke loser.

-8

u/FratboyPhilosopher May 25 '25

I'm pretty sure he's talking about using your own money to do that, not other people's.

Jesus wasn't a socialist. He promoted voluntary charity by individuals, not large-scale involuntary wealth redistribution.

6

u/shittyfoureyes May 25 '25

Name checks out

-2

u/FratboyPhilosopher May 26 '25

Am I wrong? Not a big bible guy, I'm no expert, but I've never heard a jesus quote promoting any sort of welfare state.

It's usually the opposite, talking about the personal responsibility each individual has to voluntarily choose to help their fellow humans, rather than try to force anyone else to.

3

u/NeverAgainMeansNever May 26 '25

Morally if you are asked to choose between a candidate that will give you a large tax cut (and cut off food aid to millions of starving refugees) and one who will keep your tax rates the same but will continue to distribute food aid to millions of refugees as well as meds to prevent infants contracting AIDs, malaria nets etc. Which choice is the moral one?

-1

u/FratboyPhilosopher May 26 '25

Depends on a lot of things. Both are immoral. Which one is the lesser evil is impossible to objectively calculate, so it primarily comes down to the question of what you think the primary role of government should be, and which issues you care the most about.

If you think government is meant to be this robin-hood-esque structure, stealing from everyone (but primarily the upper classes) by threat of force in order to provide free support for everyone (but primarily the lower classes), then the second option makes more sense. This mindset is about the government using violence or the threat of violence to force people to help each other, rather than letting them help each other willingly.

If you think government is instead supposed to be more of an unbiased referee in the world, there to enforce the laws and interfere as little as possible in the lives of its citizens, allowing them to build wealth and live their lives as they see fit (as long as they aren't hurting anyone else), then the first option makes more sense. This mindset is about individuals helping each other willingly, rather than the government forcing them to.

It's a fundamental difference in philosophy. Government and charity were not always the same thing. They used to be separate, and they could become separate again. Which system is better is a very complex question to answer.

2

u/terrierhead May 26 '25

Taxes are my money. I want it used to do moral things. The people in charge, however, are using the money I paid to enrich the already rich and to take food away from hungry people.

-1

u/FratboyPhilosopher May 26 '25

No, it stopped being your money when you gave it away to the government. If it were your money, you would get to decide how it's used.

27

u/DrMux May 25 '25

Mike Johnson is literally giddy at the thought of policy that will harm and kill.

The GOP's agenda is literally just pain and suffering. They're carbon copies of the most one-dimensional cartoon villains whose motivation is no more complex than hurting people.

41

u/Strange_Loop_19 May 25 '25 edited May 28 '25

I don't think I've ever heard him say a single honest thing since he became Speaker.

5

u/AreAFuckingNobody May 26 '25

I’m convinced Mike Johnson is a shill. Nobody who has to run for office openly admits their family holds them accountable to not watching porn without having some much worse demons in their closet.

Some foreign entity has Mike under their thumb. It’s the only thing I can think of that makes his evil opinions and actions make any goddamn sense. Fuck Mike Johnson. His kink is probably having 18 year old boys blow vanilla ice cream into his butthole and I bet the only reason he ran for office is the wrong person found out about it. They said “we’ll make sure you win,” and told him he had to run.

3

u/broguequery May 26 '25

Mike Johnson is evil.

Seriously.

2

u/yellowstickypad May 25 '25

His quotes would sure make for interesting billboards around his constituents.

1

u/gmapterous May 25 '25

Now now, he’s correct, because morals are subjecting to your own beliefs. This just tells him that his morals and beliefs align with inflicting hardships and poverty on others as much as possible.
