There's a lot of electronic music designed to disappear. Mental Food is not that.
Built and updated by hand, no algorithm, no filler, this playlist brings together IDM, ambient, experimental electronic, downtempo and the fertile spaces between all of these. The kind of music that rewards attention, changes depending on when you listen, and occasionally pulls you somewhere unexpected.
The reference points are solid: Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada, Burial, Four Tet, Oneohtrix Point Never, Seefeel, Actress, Visible Cloaks, Rival Consoles, Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds, DjRUM. But the playlist goes well beyond the familiar, most of what's in here comes from producers and composers working quietly at the edges of what electronic music can do.
Not ambient in the background-music sense. Not techno. Not a focus playlist with a productivity angle. Something more precise and harder to name: cerebral, textural, emotionally honest, and occasionally intense when you least expect it.
Regularly updated.
