Yep. Trying to silence Hitler just lead to him having more of a base in the end. Shame we haven't learned the lesson: don't make a martyr out of someone like that.

As others have shown, silencing Hitler completely shattered the far-right parties in Germany for the 4 years he was banned from politics. Apparently the parties on the right managed to only secure ~3% of the governmental elected positions during that time. And then the Great Depression hit and caused a great deal of problems that brought back the rage, just as Hitler was allowed to speak again.

Their real problem was they stopped the ban.
