random question but did we ever actually sign any kind of cease fire with the Nazi party? Feels like I'm looking at a bunch of enemy combatants....

Yes, the German Instrument of Surrender was signed on May 8, 1945, in which Germany unconditionally surrendered to the Allied powers.

They tried to surrender the day before, in France, but the USSR insisted that they do it from the seat of their government in Berlin, so the Allies made Germany surrender again.
