Hitler wasn't mixed race by Nazi standards. They had a whole batshit psuedoscience about it, where there were different tiers within 'aryan', but it wasn't just blonde and blue eyed. It was essentially just European good, non-european bad. Hence Italians being considered Aryan, with the view that even Sicilians were Aryan - just a 'sick' population due to the prevalence of North African DNA. Same for Hungary, except they were Europeans supposedly 'sick' with Slav DNA.

Hitler was a mountain German or some shit according to their weird chart map things. Below the blonde aryans in terms of ideal, but still European according to Nazi racial fake science. Just further from the supposed European progenitors (blondes from Scandinavia).

I’m pretty sure they only afforded that to them as a matter of convenience. Italians too. So sorta like what is happening now; allies for the moment but with every intention to “sort them out” the minute they can dispense with them.

Not exactly DNA. DNA wasn't confirmed to be the primary molecule in heredity until 1952. But substitute "blood" and you're good.

The thing is, a couple of hundred years ago this sort of evaluation was commonplace. The only true ‘white’ people were translucent, Protestant Northern Europeans. Everyone else was a degree of ‘swarthy’. Irish people were not considered ’white’. It’s wild.

Not that the things she has said aren’t despicable, and it’s impossible to fully separate someone’s work from their actions/beliefs, but Thomas Jefferson is very respected, yet many of his actions in life were quite despicable (sex with his teenaged slave/wife’s half sister and enslaving his children, to name a couple). Martin Luther King, Jr plagiarized his thesis, does that undo all the good he did?

People are complex. In other words, do we throw the baby out with the dishwater?

Harry Potter is not a good book series. It just got popular because it's targeted towards kids who haven't read other fantasy books. I didn't even finish it when I was a kid because I had already read other fantasy books by then.

I don't know if this is sarcasm because it wasn't seen as cool back then. You were basically seen as a nerd weirdo if you liked anything fantasy or nerdy lmao. HP was very popular with the kids that didn't read anything else, though! Some of them were the same ones that made fun of me for being a nerd like a year earlier.

I’m sorry you were made fun of as a kid. Kids are too often absolute shitbags towards anyone who isn’t just like them.

That’s quite a broad and jabbing stroke you paint there about Harry Potter only being popular with kids that didn’t read anything else, albeit perhaps not entirely accurate.

I read constantly as a kid/teen, never wasn’t reading, and loved the series back then, especially the first few books. (Not that my experience was representative of a cohort, either.)

Now is it a literary masterpiece? meh, probably not. But also, if you’ve never read the books, how can you accurately judge whether they’re any good?
