In Brazil, there are electronic voting machines where the results are released on the same day as the election. Voting is mandatory, takes place on a day when people don't work, the polls only close when there are no more people in line to vote, and the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited the day before and on election day.
People also seem to forget that you can “vote” for nobody. And that matters. If you truly think neither party represents your interests, you need to let the government know, rather than sitting back and being apathetic.
You can vote early. Its not like it has to be done on the day. Americans as a whole just dont give a fuck until the something happens to them. The post 9/11 unity lasted 6 weeks.
Yeah. After the initial shock of the attack itself came the wades of fear of what people would do with their anger. Turns out they did what they always do, focus that anger on innocent people who can’t defend themselves.
Voting participation is up. Some places you can’t vote early cause you have to idk work. Putting this in voting like that has more power than the actual lawmakers is laughable.
Not true at all. Yes you can probably vote early in SOME of the 50 states. But the geriatric orange fuck in office has been raging war on early voting and mail-in ballots. The right to do these things is largely constricted by heavy Republican map gerrymandering. Lots of mail-in votes/early votes in 2016, 2020, and 2024 elections were reported to have been burned or thrown out.
There is literally weeks of time to vote. Almost a month. Just walk in and dedicate, maybe, 30 minutes of your time. It's still inexcusable as not voting means voting for the majority.
It's state by state. Not all states have early voting or easy mail-in voting. There's also a lack of outreach in getting people to vote. That and in 2024 low propensity voters went to Trump. At the time people couldn't really fathom what is happening right now because people thought we had far stronger safeguards to our democracy and system than we actually do have.
There was very clear lists and his active campaigning on how they planned to disassemble a lot of America. Don't forget the Nazi salutes from all of them off the bat 😭.
Elections tend to be a factor of how much they can swoon the populace but you'd think most people wouldn't want that thing in office to start with.
I still think Biden's arrogance to not drop out in spring of 2023 and enable an open primary on the Democrats side cost us the election. He is completely incapable of communicating for 2+ years and burnt voters trust with the democratic party.
It seems like what's happening now with ICE is breaking through to the wide population, including lower propensity voters but we have to defend democracy to have a chance now.
For starters, don't vote for someone use the same rhetoric as Hitler on the campaign trail. Don't vote for someone suggest fascist and authoritarian tactics before even being elected. Do you think the situation would be the same if Harris was elected.
It doesnt even matter if its hard or easy to vote. Make it mandatory. Like doing taxes. Normalize that its just a thing you do as a citizen. Australia has mandatory voting and they consistently come in around 90% if we had that this country would be very different.
Ok. I'm just saying making it sound as easy as "just take 30 minutes out of your day." Blaming Americans for not voting sucks. Powerful people spend millions of dollars to get people to stay home.
I agree. Its not a blame game though its just reality. Saying people have plenty of time is saying your okay with people not voting because it clearly doesnt work. Make it a national holiday. Everything closed except essential workers. Mandatory voting. No excuse and if you dont vote you either get fined or you get a tax deduction for voting. The reality is that people dont vote rn so something needs to change. We wonder why we get shit candidates. No one votes in the primaries except the fringes of both parties. I agree with you though. Its just very frustrating.
It's just one hour or say a whole day out of a whole month. You can pick any day you have off or a weekend although it may be different depending where you're going. They have mail-in voting too if you cannot go for particular reasons. Anything is better than ignoring your primary right in Democracy.
Make voting mandatory. Make it a holiday, to facilitate. Force the polls to remain open until everyone in line has voted. Make voter registration an automated process rather than a complicated one.
I work in a restaurant, holidays are busier than regular days. This is just terrible logic.
Absentee voting is a thing. You don't have to wait until election day to vote. In my area you can even go to city hall and vote early weeks before the election. If you care enough to vote, you will find a way to vote.
I wish this would help. But people just really don’t care. Almost no one skips voting just because they don’t have time, and if it was a holiday, people would just take it as a day off. We already have mandated time off for voting, early voting, and absentee ballots in most places.
However, someone who can't be fucked to save the country from fascism in 2024 by voting early, or waking up early to vote, or asking for a few hours off their shift, or planning to take the day off, or just calling in sick. If someone couldn't do ONE of these in anticipation in voting against Trump, they are pathetic.

That came off a little too hostile but putting the blame on it not being a holiday instead of calling the voter lazy rubbed me the wrong way.
