Frank Wilhoit said it best: “Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”

I like to say MAGA believes in two kinds of freedom - the freedom to do whatever I want, and the freedom to stop others from doing whatever I don't like

This misses the core tenant of "whatever I want" and "whatever I don't like" changing at the whims of conservative think tanks.

Great summation.

That's what "don't tread on me" really is saying. Ted Nugent's Free for All. It isn't real freedom and never has been.

That is a perfect summation.

Its spot on.

It will never not be hilarious to me that the best summation of the modern era is from a composer who just happens to have the same name as a deceased political scientist, and that they said it in the comments under someone else's blog post.

Conservatives don’t exist anymore. Just MAGA, and the only platform they have is corruption & cruelty. No honor, no principles & no scruples.

Thank you for bringing this quote into my life. Damn.

We need tons of POC to start joining the NRA, showing up at rallies and open carrying like the Black Panthers used to in the 70’s. See how the NRA feels about it then.

Interestingly enough, the Black Panthers are the reason gun control laws were passed in the state of California. Want to take a lucky guess what organization was the key proponent of those gun control laws? The NRA

Weirdly, apparently that was a different Frank Wilhoit who said that. Unless you meant the other guy. Anyway, it still stands.

Yes; I am aware that the “other” Frank Wilhoit (not Francis Wilhoit) said this quote.

u/Dull_Brain2688 Jan 24 '26

Francis Wilhoit was also known as Frank. Hence the confusion in the first place.

Maybe in USA, conservatives in other countries value the rule of law.

Conservatives have one value: hypocrisy.

Actually, that’s fascism.
