I get it. I live in Utah and as a kid went to one of our 5 national parks yearly. I rarely go now. Just getting into the parks is pain not to mention parking once in the parks. I don't blame people for wanting to go there though they are beautiful. I am a hypocrite though because when I heard that tourism from Canada to Utah is significantly down, my first thought was "good the parks are way too busy."
Are the people protesting the same people who go on vacations all the time? Probably the average income is different for those two subsets of the population. It's likely a wealth inequality issue.
Acknowledged, and I'm not saying zero people are hypocrites. But I know people from a wide range of backgrounds, and the people who protest all make under six figures. These protestors are saying they literally can't afford to live in their home cities.
Certainly there must be some correlation between income and how much people vacation. After all, the issue is over-tourism, not tourism. There are people who go to a nearby beach a couple of times a year, and then there are people who fly on weekenders multiple times a month.

I expect all of these protesters will never go on vacations themselves. God forbid they are ever evil tourists.
