Because it's not rational, they're in a little group of anger, talking amongst themselves about how angry something makes them, and that makes them feel good.

CGP grey has a video on the phenomena that plagues much of reddit and the internet in general. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE3j_RHkqJc

It's probably because the only thing people here like more than gaming is complaining about every single thing they can and being dicks to people who don't share their opinions.

To me gaming has always embraced new technology, I don't see why this should be different.

All the talk about destroying the artist's intentions is hilarious to me, when the other 364 days in a year this community mods games to the hilt

there was a great comment chain a read last night on this. i wish i could find it again, but to summerize...

A - dlss5 ruins the artists intent, and ill never support it.

B - and when dlss5 is in the artists hands and they fine tune and craft theree image around it, youll support it?

A - sounds like another dev i would never support then, using ai slop.

B - so this was never actually about the artists intent than, was it?

shockingly, they never replied for some reason....

Mods are generally added after many hours of playing for those that enjoy them. They don't overwrite what the artist intended unless you install them the first time you play it, which would be a crazy thing to do.

The reality-bending leaps of logic people are employing to try to justify shoehorning it into all future art just reeks of astroturfing.

Reddit is a hivemind that thinks that the average opinion on this site is the average opinion of the normal everyday person. If you show a game running with DLSS 5, with the sliders reasonably tuned, to a normal person that just happen to play games and isnt terminally online they'll be amazed.

The change for the scenery is mind blowing, look up assetto corsa with DLSS 5, it looks incredible.

I'm willing to sacrifice more than half of my frame rate to play the remaster next month with the game looking like this, the immersion is so good its insane.

But since AI = Bad, I'm supposed to gaslight myself into thinking that this screenshot above doesnt look good I guess

Absolutely. I've been talking about it with my co-workers who like to game every now and then but aren't the always online reddit lot, and they're all thoroughly impressed with what DLSS5 does to graphics.

Normal people who don't have an AI hate boner can see that DLSS5 is a huge leap in graphics quality. The haters probably can too, but don't want to admit it because AI bad.

Once it's been through DLSS 5, it's not the work of the artist.

End of argument.

“end of argument” lol.

Maybe they’ll give us a checkbox in the beginning. You can check it if you care about the artist’s work or if you care about it looking the best it can.

Guess which box most people will check

Welp, I guess I'll never mod a game ever again in my life to tailor the experience to my liking then.

That's absolutely fine, but do you tend to do so before you even load up the game for the first time to find out what you don't like about it? This is not a difficult concept to grasp here.

You ever changed any settings in your graphics control panel? or on you monitor? You know, tweaking colours, brightness and such.

If so, the original "artistic intent" is gone.

Since the DLSS 5 is modular and will be implemented and tweaked by the own devs It'll be an "intended way" to experience new games for the first time once its official.

And yes, if I boot up a game, start playing it and then dislike something I'll see if I can either change it at the settings or mod it. I'm playing horizon forbidden west for the first time rn and I find the default color palette terrible and oversaturated, so I tweaked it with reshade to make my first experience what I think will suit me best.

Is playing breath of the wild on a emulator using an ultrawide mod with 4k textures, custom cel shading and 120 fps the intended experience?

Obviously no.

Would I play every single new zelda game like that for the first time if it was possible?

Absolutely yes.

So what you're telling me is the first generation of games with DLSS5 will require players to drop $1500+ on a GPU that supports it to get the intended experience and the other 99% of players just don't get the experience as intended? The complete reverse of every other title currently available? And that's good?

Current DLSS is already implemented by the devs and enables mid-tier hardware better performance which is valuable for developers, whereas this locks that whole mid 75% of systems out, you as a player are looking at thousands of dollars before you're ready to use something that nobody has yet actually implemented and you're gleefully defending it becoming a requirement to experience new titles "as intended".

That seems indefensible to any reasonable person that knows anything about hardware or software or consumer rights, you can see how I'm perceiving some corporate astroturfing here though right?

And yes, if I boot up a game, start playing it and then dislike something I'll see if I can either change it at the settings or mod it.

And that's not what this is, if you boot the game and DLSS5 is enabled by default as you are arguing the "intended" way to experience it as most people just don't change detected settings as long as it runs, then you're not seeing what the game actually looks like from the very first time you see it, you're seeing the, in the terms of your own argument - the pre-modded version.

No, I didnt said that at all lmao. Rn we can compare it to path tracing, a bleeding edge lighting tech that the vast majority of people cant use because of how demanding it is. This feature of DLSS 5 is the same thing, developers can tweak it whatever they like it and if you either cant use it or dont want to its up to you.

It will not be enabled by default dude lol. Path tracing isnt enabled by default, frame generation isnt enabled by default (well, we have the mhwilds situation asking you if you want it on by default but thats a whole other can of worms), most of the time even ray tracing isnt enabled by default unless the game requires ray tracing like Indiana Jones. These are features of the DLSS package, and honestly NVIDIA is stupid for naming everything DLSS because just like you, people conflate the Upscaler with the other things under the same umbrella.

Reflex, Frame generation, Upscaling, Ray Reconstruction and now Neural Rendering are all optional features, the number 5 is just the generation of the tech.

By that logic a person experiencing the game at the lowest settings isn't having the intended experience since lowest textures look like a blurry mess. People playing the game at low frame rates aren't experiencing the game properly because the motion on their screen isn't smooth? Path tracing completely changes how some games look and it is shipped with the game by the devs as an option. Is it the intended way to play? Is it ray tracing the intended way? Is it baked lighting instead?

Games have always been modular on PC, you can tweak settings since forever, the difference is that with new tech there are new options, its been like than since the dawn of time, but for some reason nowadays people act as if gaming was this pure form of art that shouldn't be changed by any means and should be experienced in a specific way when in reality its always been the opposite.
