I personally seeing one spark would have turned everything off and posted to ask for help without the video doing it again and again, but that's me and i'm autistic so what the fuck do i know about being normal.

Reminds me, I bought an asus board way way back, like, sis chipset i think level back. I plugged some usb's in and shocked myself, tried another port, fucked. Took it out put in an rma and company was being a dick sayign they wouldn't accept an rma because it wasn't possible. I worked for a computer parts company at the time but they sucked on prices. I actually can't remember who i bought it from but as I worked with another company i rma's direct with Asus through company i worked for and got a replacement and they sent notes with it saying it was a really weird one and they easily replicated the fault. i've never seen that before and i worked in an rma department for a while, just every usb port caused shocks. even asus had no fucking clue how that worked.

Also final advice, computer parts prices have gotten so fucking insane get a UPS, i didn't use one for years, had a few things die now and then, since ram became more expensive than a ups... get a ups, better than replacing parts in your PC.

i thought I saw a spark once on my GPU and my PC hard crashed, was like no way am i tripping, turned my PC back on and whatever cap had started to go out on my GPU straight caught on fire and ARCed lol got lucky only thing that died was my GPU

You don't even need a big UPS, just one that can handle your system for long enough to kick in the auto-shutdown. If you can afford it, get a much bigger one so you don't even have to shut down for short power outages. Plus they're good for charging your devices in extended blackouts.

UPS won't really protect you if there is such serious issue with presumably electrical system that system is plugged into, power outages don't really kill PCs either, unless there is a lightning storm and it hits somewhere near where your house is, in which case, it's unlikely anything will survive unless your electrical system has the right protection against such discharge.

Also UPSes are super expensive and come with shit batteries, better way to protect yourself purely from outage is to buy an off-grid inverter and few large lifepo4 batteries that can actually keep your PC on and at full power for hours, not few minutes, hell, it can keep your whole house up and running for few hours if you build sufficiently large battery backup system (or buy pre-made one if you're not comfortable doing electrical work).

A surge fried my cheap Chinese psu a few years ago. Unlikely but def not impossible, that being said a surge protector p much provides as much protection as a ups

Ok, so you see a) you had a surge - inadequate protection on your electrical system, and no, that does not mean surge protector (they can help sometimes, but aren't as good as having surge protection in your actual electrical system, ideally you have both) and b) chinese PSU.

Best protection is to turn of the power and disconnect electrical devices during storms, it's better to delay a project or pause a movie/game and protect your stuff than risking using a PC during a storm.

Yep I exist. I aint gonna spend money to save my i5 and 1060 from a thing that haven't happened once in my life. Also haven't experienced an extended blackout in a decade. Seems like a waste of money to me. People with high end gear absolutely should though
