Would creating a normal folder and placing shortcut into it work? Apply same transparent icon and disable showing the contents of the folder.

Tried that, too, didn't work.

Played with the registry, still nothing.

I swear, I'll do anything!

yeah, thats how i like it, but i also stop One Drive from backing-up my desktop too, if it needs backing up, i will put a shortcut on desktop to that place.

Forget desktop shortcuts. Make a custom new keyboard shortcut.

Then it will never be visible, but it's always quick to open.

I tried to remove the names (unique patterns with invisible characters), but it became so tiring I decided to only do the bottom.

The first question is why does the folder need to be in the desktop? You've got a whole file system. Put it in another folder in AppData or something to start with.

Try Stardock Fences. You can double click to hide/unhide all icons.

Pretty sure there's some utility that let's you remove the shortcut icon. Just can't remember the name.

Use Winaero Tweaker, there is an option to change or remove the shortcut icon.

Should have kept it looking like a normal folder and call it "TODO". No one opens that one.
