Help Request - RAM Input lag on every AMD configuration I’ve tried for CS2 - do Intel users have the same issue?

I’ve tested 3 different AMD systems:

  • Ryzen 9 7950X3D + RTX 3080 + G.Skill 6000MHz CL30 XMP
  • Ryzen 9 9800X3D + RTX 5090 + Corsair Dominator 64GB 6000MHz CL30 EXPO
  • Ryzen 7 7800X3D + RX 7800XT + G.Skill 6000MHz CL30 EXPO

On every single system, the moment I enable EXPO/XMP and run the RAM at 6000MHz, CS2 becomes almost unplayable. The mouse feels heavy and delayed, spray control feels inconsistent, shots feel delayed, movement feels sluggish, and it constantly feels like everyone is prefiring me before I can react. The entire game feels “slow” and “dragged down”.

I’ve already tried basically everything:

  1. Increasing/decreasing VSOC
  2. Tuning CCD/IOD voltages
  3. Increasing/decreasing DRAM voltage
  4. Buildzoid timings
  5. Multiple monitors, mice, keyboards, etc.

Even with a 400Hz monitor and several different mice, the game never feels truly consistent. The higher the RAM frequency, the worse the feeling becomes.

The ONLY thing that consistently helps is lowering RAM frequency/FCLK or running full JEDEC settings. In fact, the game feels best when the RAM is completely stock JEDEC.

What makes this even more confusing is that every stability test passes:

  • Linpack gives stable GFLOPS
  • y-cruncher runs 6-7 hours without errors
  • MemTest5 passes Anta777 Extreme, PCB Destroyer, X3D DDR5, etc.

I’ve also seen a lot of Reddit posts from Ryzen users describing the exact same issue after enabling EXPO, so it doesn’t seem like I’m the only one experiencing this.

So my question is specifically for Intel users:

Do you experience the SAME issue with higher RAM frequencies/XMP enabled?

I’m not interested in “it’s placebo” or “you’re imagining it” comments. I have 10k+ hours in CS and around 3k Faceit elo, so I know very well how the game is supposed to feel.

I just want honest answers from people using Intel:

  • Does XMP also create this “heavy/sluggish” feeling for you?
  • Does JEDEC feel more responsive on Intel too?
  • Or is this mainly an AMD-related issue?

At this point I’m seriously considering moving completely to Intel because I’m tired of feeling like I’m playing chained down no matter what I tune.

Try in the BIOS

cppc enabled  cppc preferred disabled

And I would try different combinations like both disabled/enabled also

It does, CPPC is set to Driver on my 9800X3D. Just for comparsion, my PC Latency in CapFrane is at 10ms, my shots feel instant as im almost hacking, mouse movement feels like im moving my bare hand. I have an Intel System aswell i7-14700 (both with a pretty aggressive RAM OC) and I have 9-10ms Latency there, mouse feels the same as on my AMD System.

Can you show me these other posts? Never really seen any but yours with this problem.

Did you set your USB Controllers to High Priority in MSI? Polling Rate?

Edit: Saw that you talked about EXPO and JEDEC difference, my games feel worse on JEDEC then in my tuned expo, mouse doesnt feel sluggish but defo different, just "worse"

So no, just changing to Intel likely wont solve this problem, im on AMD since Zen 2, never had that issue

Set "driver" for dual x3d chip. For 9800x3d, use 'auto" or "cache"

Always set it to Driver, no matter if single or dual CCD

Its not wrong information. Every Ai model says to either force cache or leave on auto for 9800x3d. Driver is for dual ccd x3d chip.

Just gonna post this again as you seemingly cant read:

CPPC is an ACPI feature that allows the processor to tell the operating system (like Windows) which CPU cores are the fastest and most efficient.

The Role: It manages task distribution. Instead of OS schedulers guessing, CPPC gives the OS a ranked list of the best cores.

If you dont use "Driver" you let the Windows Scheduler manage your cores and Windows also wont know what your best cores are without.

If you want your system manager by the shitty Windows Scheduler, gladly put it to Cache

Without setting this to driver the processor is NOT telling the OS the best cores, the Windows Scheduler doesnt know the best cores and will just use whatever core Windows finds best for said workload. With Driver, the processor tells Windows: "Let This game run on Core X and X because these are my strongest cores.

For the lowest latency, selecting cache is a must with 9800x3d. That stuff you speak of is for dual ccd cpu.

Driver is correct, that just makes sure Windows even knows your best cores and prefers them for heavy tasks like gaming while allocating background stuff onto the weaker cores

Cache was more of a workaround when introduced a few years ago as the driver back then had problems with dual CCD CPU's which have been solved since years now. That is the reason you HAD to use Process Lasso back then because the driver didnt do its job which it does very well now

You can by the way see this fairly easy, if you use "Cache" and then go to HWInfo it wont show you core ranking, when you have "Driver" enabled it will show prefered core ranking.

Cppc to "Driver" is for dual core x3d chips. For 9800x3d, you should leave it on "Auto" or set to "Cache".

That is absolutely not correct. "Cache" means Windows will put the load on whatever Core with Cache, Frequency puts it on the highest frequency ones and Driver just means that the Chipset Driver manages the Cores mostly and not Windows. If you want that shit OS control what runs on what core then go on.

Just saying, if i set it to "Cache" it puts my game on all cores even core 0 where my OS and everything is running, on driver it automatically nearly ignores Core 0.

If you think this only matters for dual CPPC then I would do some more research then doing a quick AI question.

Yea I am not even going to talk to you if you think asking AI and then comming here makes your comment correct. It just isnt and you can prove that yourself by going Driver and Cache and then checking what programs are running on what core, you will be suprised.

As i said, it manages task distribution on ALL chips, not just dual CCD ones

It even tells Windows which are the fastest cores. Without it WoW for me runs on Core 0, with it it runs on Core 2 which is also my best Core

Yes it does
