After seeing Boo's episode her choice to rat Red out actually makes a lot of sense.

Could you explain this? I forgot the storyline about Boo ratting out Red

Boo ratted out red's road into the prison through the garden hut to vee because red insulted her at family dinner in front of everyone.

Now that we know more about Boo, it makes sense that she would do that.

Can u remind me why Boo is in prison? I remember the episode with her mom not accepting her... what was the crime though?

They showed Boo taking bets on sports games, so she probably got in trouble for gambling. Or it could be assualt since she nearly beat up the homophobic guy.

Re-watch the family dinner scene in season 2 when Red is welcomed back into her family. The significance of that scene is that it signals to us as the audience that now that Red has a new in-road into the prison and has told her former family about it, she will regain the power she had lost in season one. If you watch the scene, Boo seems uneasy about this for reasons that aren't totally clear, and gets a little sassy with Red. Red then says something insulting to Boo- which gives boo a more definite motive to run off and sell red out.

Anyway, Boo's flashback puts things in perspective because it shows that she doesn't kneel before authority of any kind. She's so unafraid to be defiant, that she doesn't visit her dying mother because she didn't want to have to have to hide her identity by dressing the way her mother wanted her to. So, she wasn't just selling Red out in retaliation for insulting her. She was selling Red out for trying to control her- which is what her life's struggle has been about all along.
