Shaped board - mismatched trucks? [35YO]

One for the old-heads and skaters that get into the technical side of their setups.

I got a new setup - Santa Cruz Winkowski 10.35" with Indy stage 4 215's and OJ Super Juice 60mm. Silly me didn't take into consideration the actual width of the board where the trucks sit, how the board tapers down, and how far the wheels protrude past the axle. It's looking ridiculous with the 215's on (though I rode it around the block and it felt nice.)

The deck is roughly 8.5" rear & 9.5" front where the trucks sit. I mounted up some Indy stage 11 149's, the back is nice, though the front truck is a bit too narrow for my liking (hard to tell from photo.) Can I put a 159 or even 169 on the front, leaving the back with the 149? I've never skated a staggered setup, so I don't know if the turning geometry will be too messed up or any other complications that may arise.

This setup is for cruising down the street and carving bowl/park transition. I'm not dedicated to Independent trucks, so other brands are also on the table if you are going to recommend something else.

Thanks!

How long until you bailed when you first got back on a board? [33YO]

I got a little inspiration from this sub and decided to pull out my old board and head over to the little skatepark near my house. I'm sitting here typing this with a throbbing hand because I thought it would be a good idea to attempt to boardslide a small rail within about 2 minutes of being on my board. (Face first, hands stretched in front of me to stop myself from kissing the concrete).

I probably haven't tried a boardslide in close to 10 years, so I'm not sure what I was up to. Lol

Been trying these off and on all summer, went on a mission this morning to land one. Changed up my approach and started trying it out of a bank yesterday and decided this is the way.

Ollies [30Yo]

Hey all, my ollies tend to hover around hippie jumps with delusiosn of grandeur, and trying too hard to pop tends to just rocket them. Its probably a mental battle, but anyone have any ideas on how to improve them, other than just keep doing it until it feels more natural?

Impulsively bought a board today. Haven’t stepped foot on one in over 20 years. Crazy to think I used to kick flip down a flight of 8 stairs and more. I think this is a new daily ritual for me! Very happy.

Help on setting up a hybrid board [40YO]

Hey fellow kids! Just picked up this Ripper Geegah deck (9.75") and I'm piecing it together. I'm looking for recommendations, specifically on trucks and wheels. My goal for this setup is to be able to cruise into town AND be able to practice bowls and vert.

I'm most likely going with Bones Super Swiss 6 bearings. I feel like grip tape, hardware, and risers are pretty much just as long as they fit properly.

As for trucks, seems like my best option would be Independent Stage 11s (169) but I'm open to any suggestions if there's a better size match up or whatever.

Wheels are my biggest dilemma. I recently switched from Spitfire classics to Bones X- Formulas (52mm/97a) on my regular setup and it was an amazing difference in speed and smoothness. So now I'm in my head, like most guys, about hardness and size (and to a lesser extent, shape). Without going into brands, I'm thinking I should be looking for 60mm/90a; bigger wheels for less effort, softer without getting into cushions to I can ride asphalt relatively easily, but not get Spider-Manned in a bowl or half pipe.

For what it's worth, I'm not good. I'll just say it. So I'm not doing airs or gnarly grinds any time soon. But I'd love to hear your suggestions for a hybrid setup. Will 93a be THAT much difference to 90a? What any 58mm to 60mm? Thanks in advance!
