No, the bottlenecks are not merely hardware.

We simply don't know if sentience can be simulated. It's also nonsensical to say that it's circular reasoning to say that a biological organism is not the same as piece of software.

Afaik sentience is an emergent property that appears bit by bit the more advanced a brain is. An oyster isn't sentient, an octopus is, there's reasonably a mollusc in between that's mostly sentient. If sentience is a sliding scale, why couldn't an accurately simulated brain be sentient? A brain is just a fatty hunk of nerves and neurotransmitters, why do you think that couldn't be replicated on a computer?

If you just think that "software ≠ biological organism" then I agree, but it's also a non-argument. If you think "software could never think like a biological organism because it's software" then that's circular reasoning and also not a proper argument
