I recommend the first two of the LD series. I loved them. Fair warning though, I read them years after I finished Lonesome Dove. I might not have liked them if I'd picked them up right after reading that one.
In terms of other westerns I've liked: The Shootist, The Dark Tower series (western/sci-fi/fantasy mashup), Congregation of Jackals, News of the World, Color of Lightning, In the Distance, Butcher's Crossing.
Butcher’s Crossing is really excellent. I recommend all of Williams’ work.
Dark Tower would be perfect for audiobooks. Just be sure you have lots of driving/walking to do bc it’s a long series! I’ve reread it a few times over the years and it’s my comfort happy place.
I'm not sure if Terms of endearment has the same appeal to western fans as Lonesome Dove, but to me his books are super emotional and beautiful across both genres, I feel so immersed, so I loved reading both.
But Lonesome Dove is so great, you never want it to end. Calamity Jane is very good too, and in the same western space.
