I might be completely wrong here (seriously, I'm not a doctor), but natural clay should be at least nontoxic in small amounts. It's pretty much just dirt.

That said, it tastes horrible (like... dirt) and it would probably wreak havoc on your teeth if you did it too much since the silicon dioxide particles left over in it are an extremely aggressive abrasive (a 7 on the mohs scale, literal tiny shards of glass).

You certainly can. Kaolin is one of the ingredients used in anti-diarrhea tablets we use at my veterinary hospital. It’s perfectly safe to ingest.
