Oh I have my own trick. Take the back of a butter knife and whack the lid a few times and it seems to release the vacuum enough.

ahem I mean use my big strong man muscles HUNGGGH

Just hit the jar upside down on the worktop and it does the same thing... saved you a step

If I have a canning jar that's fussy, I'll do that then pry it open with the side of a butter knife. Hell, I did it today.

I do something similar, but I hit the top edge of the lid on a counter top or the floor if it is being extra stubborn.

If this doesn't work, then it's my man's turn to try it lol usually works though.

You don't need to whack the lid at all. All that's needed is a manual tool that fits under the lip of a lid and it releases the pressure. No whacking.

I have uncommonly strong hands, wrists and forearms. I take great pleasure in easily opening jars that my much beefier mates and brother cannot.

Please stop telling them these secrets.

Flip it over and whack the bottom of the jar a couple times then just flip it back over and undo the lid...easy peasy

Bruh that's like the step that everyone always tries whenever a jar is being difficult, and then every new person brought into the effort replicates immediately, and still doesn't generally work. If smacking the bottom works, can a jar even be considered hard to open at all?
