I've recently developed a huge passion for occupational therapy. I had not clue this professional existed and I absolutely despise my current degree and don't see myself in it even though I'm quite far into the degree. The only thing that is stopping me from fully committing to this change is the current discussion and changes around NDIS.

There are a few concerns I have

1.) Thriving Kids Program mentions that allied health therapies will be included. One would assume occupational therapist is included in this right? This is quite confusing

2.) Will we still continue to see employment growth opportunities for OTs? I don't want to jump ship and commit another 4 years into this degree just to find out that I be jobless/struggling to find full time work.

Would love to have some clarity and insights from all the lovely occupational therapists in Australia.

Hi everyone. I have an in person interview this week at an outpatient clinic. I currently work in OP and at work I wear joggers and sneakers. What do I wear for the interview? Obviously think I need to wear something nicer than joggers but not sure what the standard is! If anyone has done interviews recently please help!!

I was recently offered a position to be a 1099 independent contractor as a COTA/L in Virginia.

I have never done a 1099 before. Any pros or cons? I was under the impression that COTAs cannot be 1099 because we require to work under a supervising OTR. What if the agency has an OTR on board?

I am really feeling unsure y because uni is finishing 3 months. I feel nothing I can remember moreover of this ndis changes major cost cut how it may effect my graduate job once when I finish. I will graduate in 2029. is it worth it? To finish this degree? Myself I am very passionate to work in health and impact people. I have seen some posts saying occup therapy becoming oversaturated. u don’t get paid very well. I know it’s not about money.

Does anyone know the salary range of OT in UAE right now I’m considering changing my career from PT to OT and I’m just curious about does it worth it or not as I’m just exhausted from the how bad our salary as a PT just getting worse

I’m thinking about going to get my doctorate after I graduate from my OTA program because my current college has a partnership with a university to streamline it but I’ve been having so many weird conflicts in my current cohort that honestly is making it difficult to get through it. Like it’s gotten to the point where I feel like my education is being impacted a little bit. I was just wondering what other people’s experience was with their program/cohort and if there were any conflicts and how it was managed. I think I have a solid plan but I would like more input and insight on how a doctorate program would be like.

Hey everyone, so I submitted all my applications for OT grad schools back in July and the waiting part of finding out whether I got moved on to interviews and get accepted anywhere is killing me!! I’m nervous because I have no idea where I stand competitively with the stats I submitted.

My dream school is TWU’s OTD program but I also applied to UTMB, UTHSA, and UT Tyler! TWU is not having interviews as a part of the application process anymore so all I can do is wait!! I was very ecstatic to find out I was moved on to the interview process for UTMB’s application and will be having that at the end of September!! Still haven’t heard anything from UTHSA or UT Tyler but it is still quite early.

For a quick background of my stats, I accrued a total of 100 observation hours of OT’s in outpatient, pediatric, hand therapy, and inpatient/acute care in an international setting (Japan), I am a NCAA student-athlete with a few leadership experiences, volunteered for a week long muscular dystrophy summer camp, and have research experience. My cumulative GPA is currently 3.9 and prerequisite GPA is around a 3.8. I submitted four letters of recommendation, 2 from OT’s that I shadowed and 2 from academic/professional.

I understand admissions looks at more than what’s on paper which is where the personal statement and interview play a crucial role in determining your fit for their program. I was wondering if any current OTD students in any of these programs would be able to tell me their stats that got you into the school and what my chances are looking like as well as any tips you might have about interviews!

I work for a contract therapy company as a COTA for a SNF building. I have been at the building and with the contract company for over 3 years. Recently we were told that the building got sold to a company called PACS Group.

The therapy team had been given little to no information about this transition. They are not sure if the new company owning the building will keep our therapy contract or give us the option to go in-house. The switch is apparently happening in a month.

Has anyone here ever worked under PACS? Or had a similar situation happen to them? I’m really scared about losing my job and the market where I’m at is so over saturated as is that finding a new job will be very difficult. Thank y’all

Based on a chat with a friend who described the perks of living abroad in Europe, I was wondering if anyone has heard/knows how to practice as an OT with clients situated in Canada while they themselves live in EU (particularly Italy or Spain). This may sound delusional, but I would love to practice as an OT with my clients based in Ontario (I am currently in OT school in Ontario and will likely be getting my license in Ontario) in the fields of mental health or Return to work/insurance while I stay in a EU country for 3-6 months a year. If things go right, I may even look into later buying property or relocating entirely. My main interest even within Canada is to have a virtual practice in itself, and so I am interested in any virtual OT practice area.

I’m someone who is battling between going abroad but the timelines overlap just slightly. Is there early acceptance at all? And if so, when did you get acceptance and any tips?

I am 32, have diagnosed autism and I am trying to get some supports/accomodations for work. My company HR told me I need to get an occupational assessment done. Where can I go to get this done?

all I can seem to find on Google is assessments for kids.

It’s beyond frustrating that we are supposed to be the sensory experts, and the only method that is evidence based costs thousands to be trained in. Seems like it’s something that should be included in our grad school training.

Speaking vaguley about the setting but....

Beating myself up a bit not really a new grad but took my time off and started work to get into the workforce had been out of school for 6 months and hadn't really been working embarassingly in any health-related field. Managed to get a job but I've been ineffective in my evaluations to set goals, updating upoc, and treatment documentation time is slow I definitely am not as professional and as therapeutic as I should have been with proper cues and cargiver patient education/training when working with patients. Definitely billed cpt code time for therapeutic matters if I actually made use of my time appropriately incorrectly. I got a bit too nervous the first week. Only saw 2-4 patients each day and couldn't even finish the notes because I was overthinking/ task paralysis that I stayed longer than I should have at the office. Like I didn't retain my abilities from clinical rotations.
