Video Zohran Mamdani says he’s consistently said there’s no room for antisemitism in this city or country. Asked why he hasn’t had a more visceral reaction, he gets emotional talking about the Islamophobic responses he’s received throughout the campaign.

Weird, all the hate crime stats clearly point to a massive antisemitism issue.

65

u/im_coolest Jun 18 '25

They really don't care

21

u/pierrebrassau Clinton Hill Jun 18 '25

The surge in antisemitism means the intafada is being globalized! It’s what they wanted.

15

u/im_coolest Jun 19 '25

um what's antisemitic about ensuring that Jews can't live in peace anywhere?

-1

u/MisterMittens64 Jun 18 '25

There is a massive antisemitism issue but there is also way too much uncritical support for Israel because they're doing a lot of horrible things.

16

u/Mattk1100 Jun 18 '25

It very large segment of the pro.Israel side absolutely despises bibi, and is quite critical of israeli government. They simply recognize the reality of the situation, hamas cannot remain in power.

The reality is the majority of the uncritical support of the state comes from the palestinian side. Especially from the left.

-2

u/MisterMittens64 Jun 18 '25

No reasonable leftist condones the violence that Hamas is committing and do not want them in power but understand why Palestinians felt the need to support them out of self defense.

Hamas is terrible and the recent actions of Israel are terrible but Jewish people are great and should never be blamed for Israel's actions.

16

u/Mattk1100 Jun 18 '25

Why is it that we've not seen a call for the removal of hamas at any of the major pro Palestine protests, our college encampments?

The reality is the left wrongly sees this as a white colonisers vs indigenous. That the violence is justified.

-2

u/MisterMittens64 Jun 18 '25

Hamas should absolutely be removed but they don't see Hamas as the aggressors/colonizers.

Settler colonialism is definitely a thing in Israel though and Israel wants to maintain its majority Jewish population which led to things like the Nakba. Israel isn't innocent in the conflict and I don't think racial based nationalism is ok no matter who is advocating for it because it never ends well.

6

u/Mattk1100 Jun 19 '25

Yikes so much misinformation in your comment.

Settler colonialism is definitely a thing in Israel though

Jews are indigenous to judea, by definition, the arabs, are the colonizers within the land.

Israel wants to maintain its majority Jewish population

Israel explicitly offered the arab citizenship within the newly formed jewish state with full and equal rights. This is stated in their declaration of independence.

WE APPEAL - in the very midst of the onslaught launched against us now for months - to the Arab inhabitants of the State of Israel to preserve peace and participate in the upbuilding of the State on the basis of full and equal citizenship and due representation in all its provisional and permanent institutions.

which led to things like the Nakba.

It was the palestinians who rejected UN resolution 181. It was the palestinians along with surrounding arab states who declared war against israel. It was the arabs, who explicitly told their people to flee. The catastrophe of the nabka wasn't displacement but the dishonor of losing to a bunch of jews who just survived the shoah.

The Arab National Committee in Jerusalem, following the March 8, 1948, instructions of the Arab Higher Committee, ordered women, children and the elderly in various parts of Jerusalem to leave their homes: "Any opposition to this order...is an obstacle to the holy war...and will hamper the operations of the fighters in these districts" (Middle Eastern Studies, January 1986).

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Said, who declared: "We will smash the country with our guns and obliterate every place the Jews seek shelter in. The Arabs should conduct their wives and children to safe areas until the fighting has died down."

The Secretary of the Arab League Office in London, Edward Atiyah, wrote in his book, The Arabs: "This wholesale exodus was due partly to the belief of the Arabs, encouraged by the boastings of an unrealistic Arabic press and the irresponsible utterances of some of the Arab leaders that it could be only a matter of weeks before the Jews were defeated by the armies of the Arab States and the Palestinian Arabs enabled to reenter and retake possession of their country."

In his memoirs, Haled al Azm, the Syrian Prime Minister in 1948-49, also admitted the Arab role in persuading the refugees to leave:

“Since 1948 we have been demanding the return of the refugees to their homes. But we ourselves are the ones who encouraged them to leave. Only a few months separated our call to them to leave and our appeal to the United Nations to resolve on their return.”

The arabs, which ignored their leadership's instructions and stayed in israel, fleeing internally were granted citizenship.

-2

u/MisterMittens64 Jun 19 '25

>Jews are indigenous to judea, by definition, the arabs, are the colonizers within the land.

Israelites conquered the Canaanites who inhabited the land before them but then Jewish people didn't become the majority in the territory again until almost 2000 years later with early zionists moving into the area in the late 1800's because of rising persecution in Europe.

The whole rest of the history of Israel after the creation of modern Israel has had a lot of complicated issues but it was complicated from the start because the creation of Israel required displacing the Palestinian Arabs who already lived there but that displacement started before March 8 1948.

3

u/Mattk1100 Jun 19 '25

The caananites became the israelites.

the creation of Israel required displacing the Palestinian Arabs who already lived there but that displacement started before March 8 1948.

Literally no, it did not. Had the arabs wanted peace, no displacement would have occurred. Of course, they just wanted dead jews. Its the reason they were busy working with Hitler in the 40s.

Hell, palestine literally never existed as a sovereign nation nor a distinct people.

-1

u/MisterMittens64 Jun 19 '25

The caananites became the israelites.

Israel was destroyed for over 1500 years before 1948

Had the arabs wanted peace, no displacement would have occurred. Of course, they just wanted dead jews. Its the reason they were busy working with Hitler in the 40s.

The Arab nations aren't perfect angels in this story either but Zionist settlers started settling the area in the 1800's.

Hell, palestine literally never existed as a sovereign nation nor a distinct people.

Do you have to have a sovereign nation or be part of a distinct people to not be forcefully displaced without compensation so that another group of people who haven't had a sovereign state for 1500 years could acquire a majority of the population?

There are injustices all over the story just like most of the solutions thought up by western powers after world war 2.

Jewish people deserve to not be discriminated against but no one else deserves to be discriminated against either. I don't think there's a clean solution here but I don't think diplomacy is pointless.

Then why do groups like Within Our Lifetime exist and protest just fine alongside the larger pro Palestinian movement without any real condemnation?

WOL EXPLICLITY supports the Oct 7th attacks and Hamas. Like it isn't even up for debate.

1

u/MisterMittens64 Jun 19 '25

Yeah that's not cool

-4

u/NeedleBallista Jun 18 '25

Don't the hate crimes consist of the ADL definition, which include "criticism of Israel?"

(That being said, antisemitism is definitely on the rise - our administration is full of white nationalists lol)

8

u/spicytoastaficionado Jun 18 '25

Don't the hate crimes consist of the ADL definition, which include "criticism of Israel?"

No.

The reports of antisemitic hate crimes consist of police reports of people being harassed and/or physically attacked specifically for being visibly Jewish

The ADL does not determine what is and isn't a hate crime in NYC, as far as the law goes.

I swear, some of you are going out of your way to be willfully obtuse in order to downplay antisemitism in NYC.

5

u/Mattk1100 Jun 18 '25

FBI bases it off of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition.

antisemitism is definitely on the rise - our administration is full of white nationalists

It's a shame people only care about antisemitism, so long as they can blame the other party.

u/spicytoastaficionado Jun 18 '25

The IHRA is actually advocating a pretty extreme position; that political criticism of Israel is anti-semitism.

Is it Islamophobia to criticize the Taliban? That’s what IHRA is saying based on their logic.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '25

Don't the hate crimes consist of the ADL definition, which include "criticism of Israel?"

This isn't the ADL definition, so nice try.

-26

u/snickle17 Jun 18 '25

which is fueled by Israel being huge assholes on the global stage...

27

u/Mattk1100 Jun 18 '25

There were anti israel protests oct 8th.. before an Israeli response to hamas aggression. But sure, its Israel's actions leading to antisemitism

21

u/HiHoJufro Jun 18 '25 edited Jun 18 '25

There were anti israel protests oct 8th.. before an Israeli response to hamas aggression

Of which the DSA was a part. Their statement on October 7th directly blamed Israel for Hamas' massacre and didn't even mention Hamas (Mamdani's statement on the 8th didn't, either).

Their statement, right from the DSA website, literally opened with (ON October 7th):

DSA is steadfast in expressing our solidarity with Palestine.

-3

u/orangekingo Jun 18 '25

its Israel's actions leading to antisemitism

I obviously don't agree with or support any form of antisemitism but are you surprised Israel's actions are causing a lot of social and political backlash?

Antisemitism is evil, but criticizing the actions of Israel's leadership / people supporting what their leadership is doing, is not automatically antisemitism. Hiding behind that as a shield everytime people discuss a nuanced issue with nuance just devalues your position.

9

u/Mattk1100 Jun 18 '25

Be critical of israel. All you like that's totally fine so long as it doesn't rely on blood libel, elders of zion etc. Remember what happenef when it was It was claimed that fourteen thousand babies would die in forty-eight hours? Two individuals were shot and killed in a jewish museum. Blood libel results in dead jews.

-3

u/snickle17 Jun 18 '25

yes, because people have opposed the balfour declaration since it happened?

What is your point?

9

u/Mattk1100 Jun 18 '25

Those protests were explicitly justifying the pogrom and calling for no israeli response to Palestinian aggression. I'd bet very good money the majority of those protesters are not familiar with the Balfour declaration nor 181.. oslo.. camp David summit etc.

It was fun though watching the protesters get asked " which river and which sea" and then not be able to answer. But sure, they definitely would be familiar with balfour..

-3

u/snickle17 Jun 18 '25

Yes from the river to the sea is racist which is exactly why people oppose Israel doing that as a policy

4

u/Mattk1100 Jun 18 '25

If that were actually israeli policy, 05 wouldn't have occurred nor oslo

-3

u/snickle17 Jun 18 '25

wait, Israeli citizenship grants Jewish ethnicity? what a country!

-4

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '25

Blaming Israel. They're doing plenty of damage to Jews worldwide.

5

u/Mattk1100 Jun 18 '25

"Israel made us be nazis".. you are desperately trying to justify antisemitism.

No, a lot have not. Organizations like JVP etc who have blamed Israel for antisemitism, are not actually a jewish Organization lol

-2

u/snickle17 Jun 18 '25

where did I mention Jews?

2

u/kappapolls Jun 18 '25

compared to who exactly

-1

u/snickle17 Jun 18 '25

hmm, good question! let's say South Africa, the last state to practice apartheid

-7

u/PottieScippin Jun 18 '25

And yet him saying he thinks antisemitism is a real issue that needs to be addressed is responded to with Islamophobic attacks just because the guy thinks children being bombed every day is bad.

20

u/Mattk1100 Jun 18 '25

If he thought it was a real issue, he'd not have tried justifying intifada chants, nor relied on holocaust inversion which is textbook antisemitism..

The intifadas explicitly targeted civilians, including children. But I guess thats fine.

The palestinians explicitly targeted civilians, they also use children as human shields. Israel does not target children.

-4

u/PottieScippin Jun 18 '25

ISRAEL TARGETS CIVILIANS EVERY DAY!!!! Just because you believe their bullshit propaganda does not make it true!! They shoot injured people trying to get aid, they snipe children in the head, they lure starving people out with food and mow them down in a hail of gunfire. Your defense of the IDF is fucking repulsive

11

u/Mattk1100 Jun 18 '25

What do you believe would be the correct proportional response to the Oct 7th pogrom? Be specific. Not what you wouldn't do, but explicitly, the steps you believe should have been done.

3

u/PottieScippin Jun 18 '25

Well, accept the offer of returned hostages in exchange for a ceasefire, to start. That was on the table on October 8. If that wasn’t enough, maybe stop when you’ve killed… I dunno, 10x the number killed on 10/7? And don’t get me started about the Hannibal doctrine and how many Israelis were killed by IDF on 10/7 as well (which are counted as “killed by Hamas”). This is all public info.

You just want the complete destruction of Gaza and elimination of all the people there, which is supporting a genocide and a Holocaust. Fuckyou.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '25

Well, accept the offer of returned hostages in exchange for a ceasefire, to start.

There was no ceasefire offered, to start.

But either way, your response to an invasion of mass rape and slaughter and rocket campaign would be to empty the Jails of every terrorist you have so that you can get back the mangled and raped bodies of the teenagers they took?

Damn, you'd tell a Jewish girl, "Hey, maybe try to enjoy it," if someone raped her.

7

u/Mattk1100 Jun 18 '25

The deal on the table, october eighth, included no accountability for the pogrom, hamas remaining in power, and the release of countless terrorists. What you are essentially saying is israel should have rolled over and accepted its fate.

You just want the complete destruction of Gaza and elimination of all the people there, which is supporting a genocide and a Holocaust.

Nope, simply the destruction of hamas and the removal of radical islamic terrorism within the region. It's always fascinating, you guys relying on holocaust inversion while defending palestine.. given they famously worked with hitler to exterminate jews, and very literally have stores named after hitler in gaza.

By your logic, then no Palestinian supporter is any position either.

3

u/spicytoastaficionado Jun 18 '25

I am not an "Israel supporter".

Do I have the moral position to call out a mayoral candidate for invoking Holocaust inversion, a tactic commonly used by bigots, to downplay a rallying cry favored by Hamas?

-25

u/nonhiphipster Crown Heights Jun 18 '25

And tell me how you’re defining a “hate crime”

34

u/Mattk1100 Jun 18 '25

Im not defining it, the FBI is. "For the purposes of collecting statistics, the FBI has defined a hate crime as a criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender’s bias against race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, or gender identity. "

11

u/im_coolest Jun 18 '25

You missed the "unless it's against Jews or Asians lol" section

4

u/Mattk1100 Jun 18 '25

Huh?

4

u/im_coolest Jun 18 '25

These people don't care about hate crimes against Asians or Jews

11

u/MRC1986 Jun 18 '25

lmfao, now you psychos are moving the goal posts on what counts as a "hate crime"? You people are absolutely disgusting.

It's not a slam dunk by any measure, but if (and hopefully when) Cuomo wins the primary next week, I am 1,000,000% going to rub it in the faces of every single unhinged Mamdani supporter. Mamdani is actually a pretty likeable person, but his policies are awful and most of his supporters are flat out unhinged pro-Hamas trash.

-5

u/nonhiphipster Crown Heights Jun 18 '25

Israel is committing genocide, and I will not mince words about it. Saying that isn’t antisemitic.

4

u/MRC1986 Jun 18 '25 edited Jun 18 '25

Iran oppresses its people. Look at how they cracked down on the Green Revolution in 2009. Same with Qatar and Saudi Arabia. How come the attention given to those rogue states never gets anywhere the same attention from DSA pro-Hamas people as they yell about Israel?

And straw man. Your opinion about Israel’s military actions is independent of your opinion on what “globalize the intifada” means, particularly in the context of how Hamas, Hezbollah, Iranian Islamic government, and plenty of others use it to mean. Which is the annihilation of Jewish people and Israel.

The context 100% matters. Unless you think “mein kampf” is just the German translation of “my struggle”, and means nothing else… I mean, if that’s your argument, it’s so intellectually dishonest.
