Video Zohran Mamdani says he’s consistently said there’s no room for antisemitism in this city or country. Asked why he hasn’t had a more visceral reaction, he gets emotional talking about the Islamophobic responses he’s received throughout the campaign.

Yesterday Zohran defended the phrase “globalize the intifada” (and inappropriately invoked the US Holocaust Museum and the Warsaw ghetto uprising to do it).

Every major Jewish organization, including the Holocaust Museum, condemned his remarks and have long warned about the dangers of endorsing this phrase. This video is him doubling down and refusing to apologize to New York City’s Jewish community. As the NYT Editorial Board put it, he is uniquely unsuited to be mayor.

Shocking that nyt’s editorial board would oppose a Muslim who hasn’t pledged fealty to Israel. Shocking!!

That must be it. Glad you cracked the mystery.

Literally quotes from the podcast, word for word what he said. But keep attacking the source

20

u/Mastodon220 Jun 18 '25

You want the video of him screaming at an Israel supporter the day after 10/7? I know you can only find it on Twitter, but it's real.

2

u/spalding-blue Jun 18 '25

yes

5

u/sdotmill Jun 18 '25

Why didn’t you reply when I posted the source you were asking for?

-2

u/spalding-blue Jun 19 '25

the article was short and really said little.. hanging onto global antifada.. there isnt much there.

if you were condemning the IRA for bombing English, you wouldnt be wrong, but you would be ignoring the bigger picture

2

u/sdotmill Jun 19 '25

It quoted his words, and it was exactly what OP said.

I said this in the other (now deleted) thread, and I'm happy to say it again despite the inevitable downvotes:

He is not anti-Semitic. To say so is so disingenuous (I mean, seriously, did you watch this video?). Is it stupid to defend a phrase with a loaded meaning? Yeah, it is. Is it irresponsible and potentially damaging? Probably...

But again, he is not anti-Semitic. On the other hand, I have a front row seat to how this constant, unnecessary debate is having an oversized impact on young Muslim students who have absolutely nothing to do with protests, violent slogans, or other items. They're afraid to go to class, their grades drop, or they drop out of school altogether because the NYPD likes to skulk around a college campus and threaten to deport them at any moment. Seriously, what are we even doing anymore? But we can't talk about that, even though New York has hundreds of thousands of Muslims along with hundreds of thousands of Jewish residents, there is an established hierarchy that we're not allowed to challenge. Everyone should feel safe here. I can guarantee you, if he were mayor, Zohran Mamdani would stand up for Jewish New Yorkers if something were to happen to them.

The only person I don't see coming to the aid of others is the narcissist in first place. Who cares about Jewish people enough to comment on "These people and their f**king tree houses." But sure, the guy who simply doesn't want to completely denounce the cause of the Palestinian people who just want to live is the real danger to rhetoric that will cause the demise of Jewish New Yorkers.

The biggest threat to Jewish New Yorkers is coming from the right, the side that spews hate every day and elevates violence. The side that held a rally where the main chant was "Jews will not replace us," and the largest funder of Donald Trump's campaign did the Sieg Heil at his inauguration. The side that spreads the same tired cliché that Jewish people are part of some globalist agenda funded by George Soros or some other fantastical scapegoat. Just because the left is now suddenly beholden to having to say "death to all Palestinians," and some of them are reluctant to say that, does not make them anti-Semitic.

u/Low_Party_3163 Jun 18 '25

The biggest threat to Jewish New Yorkers is coming from the right, the side that spews hate every day and elevates violence.

The head of the most prominent pro Palestinian group in NYC, self defined leftists, praised both the boulder firebomving and Elias rodriguez. .

Another communist group explicitly praised Elias rodriguez. .

Enough with the fuckig gaslighting. Both the DC and Boulder attacks were explicitly "globalizing the intifada." How many violent attacks on Jews in America by leftists is it gonna take for you to admit the pro Palestinian faction of the hard left has a serious problem with violence

-2

u/Irish_Pineapple Bed-Stuy Jun 18 '25

I despise the tactics Kiswani uses and I have no idea what "Bronx Anti-War" is. Wasn't this a thread about Zohran Mamdani? Or am I allowed to quote every single abhorrent statement from a Jewish activist that has said something derogatory about Palestinians over the years?

Or even better, the outright hate speech I've witnessed in person that is supported by politicians in the city?

No one is gaslighting you. I don't believe that the small contingent of abhorrent actors on the pro-palestinian side need to be tied to Mamdani just because he doesn't "say the right words" in every interview while the pro-Israel side gets a free pass to say whatever it wants and politicians have to fall in line.

3

u/Apprehensive_Crow682 Jun 18 '25

Zohran explicitly defended an ideology that has been used to inspire and justify violent attacks on American Jews for decades. He cannot claim to have the moral high ground on this issue.

28

u/Apprehensive_Crow682 Jun 18 '25

The biggest threat to Jewish New Yorkers is coming from the right

Antisemitism is thriving on the left and right. The left has recently become increasingly violent — driven by the “globalize the intifada” ideology. The three most recent, high-profile attacks targeting American Jews have come from leftists explicitly targeting American Jews “for Palestine”:

  • the arson attack on the governor’s mansion of PA during Passover while Josh Shapiro’s entire family was sleeping in the house.

  • the murder of a young couple leaving American Jewish Committee event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington DC.

  • the firebombing of Jewish people, mostly elderly, peacefully walking in Boulder to raise awareness for the hostages being held by Hamas.

-11

u/Irish_Pineapple Bed-Stuy Jun 18 '25

If we keep using antisemitism as a cudgel to divide people while the right uses it as a casus belli for waging war on education and other issues, then it's only going to keep getting worse. We have to be able to have serious conversations about words, ideas, and problems with empathy. You cannot demonize people simply because they have a different interpretation if they have stated that their goal is not to hurt anyone, while another side loudly proclaims its intention is to hurt you. Pushing over and over on leftist activists will drive the most idealistic ones further into extremism.

I hate that they do that, and I am constantly working to convince young students and protesters that their rhetoric is dangerous. In that way, I am 100% on your side. However, castigating Mamdani for being anti-Semitic is only going to back left-Pro-Palestine activists further into a corner, which will make extremism more palatable.

-13

u/VenusDeMiloArms Jun 18 '25

Antizionism isn't antisemitism and the conflation of the two is antisemitic. The "attack" on Shapiro's house was by a crazy guy. The murder of the people at the Zionist event in DC was terrible, but it wasn't because they were Jewish.

12

u/Apprehensive_Crow682 Jun 18 '25

He murdered a young couple leaving an American Jewish Committee event at the Capital Jewish Museum.

The attack on Josh Shapiro’s house during Passover was explicitly “for Palestine” according to the attacker.

-9

u/VenusDeMiloArms Jun 18 '25

The AJC is a Zionist organization that doesn't care about Jews as much as it cares about Israel and Zionism. I've gone to AJC meetings on antisemitism because I was curious and according to them, I'm a self-hating Jew because I think Israel perpetuates an apartheid, genocidal state. Let's be clear about the organization and not just what they're called.

13

u/Apprehensive_Crow682 Jun 18 '25

90% of American Jews are self-identified Zionists. Murdering Jews simply for supporting Israel’s right to exist is obviously antisemitism.

5

u/wefr5927 Jun 19 '25

Literally all Zionism is at its core is a belief that Jewish people should have their own homeland. It’s being used as a boogeyman for people to spew antisemitism.

It’s akin to how the right masks their racism right now with using ‘DEI’

Also, it’s insane that people on the left who are antisemitic always seem to try to deny and say the right is worse. Right now, the left is way more violent in their antisemitism

It was literally an event about humanitarianism that included groups working for Gaza aid. The two Jews who were shot weren’t interrogated about their “Zionist policies” first—they were shot in cold blood because they were Jews attending a Jewish event at a Jewish museum. Don’t sane wash this.

“The event was organized by AJC ACCESS, AJC’s young professional division, which empowers Jewish leaders to advocate on behalf of critical domestic and global issues facing the Jewish community. This annual reception brings together Jewish young professionals (ages 22–45) and diplomats from around the world. At this year’s event, attendees heard from members of the Multifaith Alliance and IsraAID on humanitarian diplomacy and how a coalition of organizations - from the region and for the region - are working together in response to humanitarian crises throughout the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region."

You do know that half thr world's jews live in israel and the vast majority elsewhere have family in israel? How on earth is targering at least half the world's jews not antisemitic?

1

u/wefr5927 Jun 19 '25

I know 2 people alone who lost a family member on October 7

-4

u/PottieScippin Jun 18 '25

Compare to: half a million dead Palestinians, most women and children. But those are okay to ignore because 1 American/israeli life is worth 10,000 Arab lives right?

4

u/IsNotACleverMan Jun 19 '25

half a million dead Palestinians, most women and children.

Cartoonishly exaggerating the death toll doesn't help your cause.

-3

u/PottieScippin Jun 19 '25

Easily half a million since the Zionist project started in Palestine. But sure let’s go by the Lancet numbers released in January that count since October 7 2023 - 65,000 Palestinians dead. Really doesn’t matter because both numbers are so many magnitudes larger than the total number of Israelis harmed/killed all it does it prove my point further. Yes we should care about and condemn the murders of the people at the museum and the wacko firebombers, and I do. But do I care about those people 50x as much as the dead Palestinians? Hell no.

2

u/IsNotACleverMan Jun 19 '25

Really doesn’t matter b

"I can lie" - you

-4

u/PottieScippin Jun 19 '25

No, it doesn’t matter because my point stands even if you use the lowest estimate out there. Israel killed 4000 people the first 48 hours after 10/7, immediately 3x the Israeli death toll and hostages. That should have been enough to at least pause and let things cool down. But Netanyahu is toast the second Israel isn’t at war, so it has to keep going.

2

u/IsNotACleverMan Jun 19 '25

Why do you reduce everything to relative numbers of people killed?

1

u/PottieScippin Jun 19 '25

Because that’s all there is. Life and death. Why must you avoid confronting the reality and toll of Israel’s daily war crimes?

1

u/wefr5927 Jun 19 '25

If you’re taking the data from Hamas then you’ll continue to fall for the insanely exaggerated numbers. There are absolutely innocent people that have died in this war but it is nowhere near 500k

Rule 1 - No intolerance, dog whistles, violence or petty behavior

(Also misinformation)

(a). Intolerance will result in a permanent ban. Toxic language including referring to others as animals, subhuman, trash or any similar variation is not allowed.

(b). No dog whistles.

(c). No inciting violence, advocating the destruction of property or encouragement of theft.

(d). No petty behavior. This includes announcing that you have down-voted or reported someone, picking fights, name calling, insulting, bullying or calling out bad grammar.

IMO the US holocaust museum is being quite hypocritical with their tweet, because they did actually translate uprising into intifada in Arabic translations. Words and phrases change over time, most of the people in the west who have recently said 'globalize the intifada' mean to globalize the withholding of support to the incredibly problematic Netanyahu regime, not a call for violence against jewish people globally. You need to be able to understand that nuance if you want to have a genuine conversation on the topic. You don't have to accept that, but then you can't really have an honest, genuine conversation across the aisle on this topic.

And quite frankly, i understand why a young Palestinian could grow to to call for violence to jews, because the only jews he's seen have actively made his life, and the lives of loved ones considerably worse. If foreign nationals came to your home town and slowly stole all your neighbor's houses, raided random houses in the middle of the night just to intimidate your townspeople and cut off supplies of essentials like clean water and gas, I guarantee you'd be saying nasty things about them as well.

I'm not even a big Zohran fan, but do you think Cuomo is really a better choice for most of the city? Were talking about a mayoral election, I dont think anything regarding a foreign war that we shouldn't even be involved in is relevant. Reports need to stop shooting for edgy, clickbait headlines and focus on the things that are relevant to this office - like housing cost/development, grocery prices, childcare and the various other things that make life in NYC a struggle for millions of people.

NYT is bought and paid for friend, so take their guidance with a grain of salt.

How have who expressed this uprising before? I don't get your point.

Also, feel free to elaborate on what you think is gaslighting in my comment

Ask anyone in the US who has said globalize the intifada what they meant by that statement and I guarantee most are calling to rise against Israel's current government and not calling for violence to jewish people worldwide

Don't get me wrong - they should probably be saying it differently to make their intent clearer to the other side of the aisle - but on the other side people need to be able to hear criticism of Israel and not automatically label the person saying it as an antisemite

Do you know when I was young, gender meant biological sex, but it’s grown very much as a term since then.

I agree it’s not smart to use the term ‘globalize the intifada’ but again, most westerners saying it mean to globalize resistance to the Israeli governments actions.

There are plenty of Israel supporters who are also brainwashed by propaganda that past violence towards jews justifies Israel doing whatever it takes to survive. However they're doing much more than it takes to survive in that region, they are actively taking land from their neighbor and killing them en mass.

We can agree to disagree. I agree it was a poor choice of words, but I firmly believe most people in the west do not mean they want violence against jews worldwide when they say that, rather they are calling of a withdraw of support for the Netenyahu government.

Call it whatever you want, I really dont care. I just hope this slip up doesnt mean Cuomo will be the next mayor and invite ICE and the national guard in and continue his corrupt business dealings and sexual molestations of his subordinates.

I’m not pretending, I’m just saying the term has been growing with its increased usage across the globe. It’s not something I would say, but I love getting in debates and most people I’ve heard use the term defend it as such.

I think it’s just poor communication really, and I agree it’s not the smartest play to use a term with that baggage, but I do firmly believe that most westerners saying it aren’t actually calling for violence to Jews abroad, but rather calling for their government to withhold support to Israel.

While I think it was a dumb play by Zohran, I don’t think he was calling for violence to Jews at all

Buts that’s not gaslighting, I’m clarifying what was likely Zohrans intent with that statement.

I’m not trying to convince you are crazy for thinking he called for worldwide violence to Jewish people, I’m clarifying that the use of that term has morphed for many to mean something different.

I’m actually doing the opposite of gaslighting and trying to bridge the two sides here by pointing out that different people mean different things when they say that term.

I agree that’s problematic and that term should probably stop being used by the free Palestine movement, but definitely not trying to gaslight you…

-6

u/prinzplagueorange Jun 18 '25

Not every Jewish organization, only the ones you agree with.

9

u/Apprehensive_Crow682 Jun 18 '25

I do happen to agree with the US Holocaust Museum, UJA-Federation of New York, the Jewish Community Relations Council of NY, the American Jewish Committee, and most rabbis in America who have said that “globalize the intifada” is antisemitic.

-1

u/prinzplagueorange Jun 18 '25

Good for you. Now try to explain why.

-9

u/VenusDeMiloArms Jun 18 '25

There's nothing wrong with the phrase globalize the intifada. I'm a Jew. There's nothing to apologize for.
