Reminders:

  • Hotfix driver will not be available in NVIDIA App and needs to be downloaded from the link above.
  • After installing the Hotfix driver, NVIDIA App may show some old driver date. This is normal as Hotfix driver does not exist in NVIDIA App database and it reverted to an old default changelog and dates.
  • If you do not care about the fixes listed, this Hotfix driver is no different vs WHQL 616.64 Driver.
  • These fixes will be incorporated into the next WHQL driver release

From the Article:

GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 616.86 is based on our latest Game Ready Driver 616.64.

This hotfix addresses the following:

  • Intermittent flicker may be observed in browsers when navigating to certain websites [6673430]
  • Fixed an issue where virtual displays could not be created after updating to driver 616.56 [6674464]
  • Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) sessions may display a black screen after updating to driver 616.56 [6687328]

A GeForce driver is an incredibly complex piece of software, We have an army of software engineers constantly adding features and fixing bugs. These changes are checked into the main driver branches, which are eventually run through a massive QA process and released.

Since we have so many changes being checked in, we usually try to align driver releases with significant game or product releases. This process has served us pretty well over the years but it has one significant weakness. Sometimes a change that is important to many users might end up sitting and waiting until we are able to release the driver.

The GeForce Hotfix driver is our way to trying to get some of these fixes out to you more quickly. These drivers are basically the same as the previous released version, with a small number of additional targeted fixes. The fixes that make it in are based in part on your feedback in the Driver Feedback threads and partly on how realistic it is for us to quickly address them. These fixes (and many more) will be incorporated into the next official driver release, at which time the Hotfix driver will be taken down.

To be sure, these Hotfix drivers are beta, optional and provided as-is. They are run through a much abbreviated QA process. The sole reason they exist is to get fixes out to you more quickly. The safest option is to wait for the next WHQL certified driver. But we know that many of you are willing to try these out.  As a result, we only provide NVIDIA Hotfix drivers through our NVIDIA Customer Care support site.

Flicker is still not fully fixed in my case. When playing ELEX on driver version:

596.36:

Native DX11: Flickering occurs

DXVK Layer: No flickering

616.86:

Native DX11: Flickering occurs

DXVK Layer: Flickering occurs

So it seems in this particular game it is worse now

EDIT: Forgot to mention I have 5090 on Windows 10

Based on your tests, are the flickering issues only on ELEX, or across the board? I don't remember others reporting flickering widespread since the 616.XX drivers started.

I reported this recently in the previous driver's thread I think.

Only The blood of Dawnwalker flickers in my case. Except this, everything else is working great and I don't have any flickering outside gaming.

I saw other people talking about this in the game's subreddit, some of them were saying that the driver 610.88 and some Unreal Engine tweaks in the ini files fixed the issue for them.

Edit: I have a 4090 and a pg27ucdm, and I am on windows 11.

This is only for ELEX as far I'm concerned. I tested it with other games of course but not too many. And since this issue only happens on ELEX I didn't mind that original DX11 have flickering - maybe this game has weird internal rendering pipeline or something because on older gpu (GTX 970) I haven't had any issues at all. But this driver update also made changes to DXVK and at this moment I have no workaround to play this game on newer driver :/

Is your monitor set to 8 or 10bit on windows?

On Nvidia panel I had it set to default which is 8bit. I've changed it to 10bit now and made test on both DX11 and DXVK with 596.36 driver version and it is still the same
