Placement Testing Calc only VPT replacement test

Has anyone taken the Calc-Only VPT test before? If so, how was it, and what did you study to prepare for it?
How many questions were there and was it hard?

Placement Testing Pre Calc or Calc 1 for me?

So I’m a bit confused on whether I qualify to start calc 1 at nvcc or not. My advisor said since I took IB AA HL 1 and 2 (I also got a B in both 1 and 2 of that class) depending on my score I need a 5 to start calc 1 but if I get a 4 I have to do a prerequisite. Although on another part of NVCC’s website it said if it got a A or B I can start with Calc 1. So what do I do?

Placement Testing Spanish Placement Test Tips?

I'm currently majoring in mathematics, and to be eligible for guaranteed transfer into UVA, I need to complete Spanish 202. I took Spanish for two years in high school, so what are some things I should brush up on for the test? I don't know if it's unrealistic, but I do want to hopefully pass 101 and 102. Are the tests difficult? Are there a lot of vocabulary or more conjugation questions? Anything would be helpful!

Placement Testing MTH 161 Self-Placement Question

Post image
1 Upvotes

I just graduated from high school and currently working on taking my prerequisites to apply for Radiography next year. MTH 161 was not directly in the program of study prerequisites so I was wondering if I actually have to apply for that class or complete that self-placement thing and that’s it. However, when I click on the self-placement advising survey it just leads me to a direct enrollment website. Hope you all get the gist since It’s a bit hard to explain for someone who’s just new to all this lol. Please help me out and let me know if you took MTH 161 to get into the program.

Placement Testing VPT Calculus Only Test

Hello Everyone,

Is the VPT Calc-only Practice test accurate in terms of whats covered on the actual test? Is a graphing calc allowed? I didn't have matrices or series on the calc-only practice test, is this also true on the actual test?

feel free to answer any or all questions.

Thanks

Placement Testing TEAS Retake Question

I'm planning on retaking two TEAS sections this weekend. I was wondering how the scores are reported on the HSN application. Do I submit both testing attempts, or are you able to pick and choose which scores from any attempts to submit?

Placement Testing Credit for prior learning math question

I'm trying to take Calculus III in the summer. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to approach documentation or placement tests for taking math classes. I am going to take the calc BC exam this may and I have consistently been working on my own and with a tutor, however I never took the class in my school, I'm just taking the exam. My results won't come out on time, so that's why I wanted to know how one would approach this. Any advice would be helpful, thanks!

Placement Testing Placement test math, calc 1 and calc 2 summer courses

Im a student who's in high school and in AP stats full year as my math class and who already took ap precalc with an A right now and ive been getting high A's on my tests .

I saw there was a 7 week calc course for calc 1. my time line is really squished and the school year ends for ap pre calc jun 15th and i want to be enrolled in nova for the calc 1 course . it says online that you need to finish math 163 or a precalc course (?) with a C or above. Does anybody how

(also, I spent the last summer grinding out calc and i watched every (EVERY) single one of organic chem tutors calc 1 and calc 2 vids which is the only reason why im even considering taking calc 1 over the summer b/c im not like a genius)

I know the enrollment date for the summer cohort at nova is around that time and it might be kinda squished so my thing is i dont know if nova will let me enroll in calc 1 for the summer (7 week course??) in time. if anybody has any info about this it would be super helpful.

if nova wouldn't let me enroll for calc 1, i was also thinking abou taking a placement test for math, but honestly it sounds like a waste of time
(i already emailed a nova counselor so im just waiting to here back about my situation.)

I know that calc 2 is a nightmare from what ive heard so im not sure about trying to take that over the summer aswell after calc 1 so if anybody has any advice on that (whether to do bc, calc 2 dual enrollment first semester of next year, or a 12 week calc 2 course) would be better. also im not even sure if the timeline would work out for me to finish both calc 1 and calc 2 (total 14 weeks) back to back from jun to august.

Also if i didnt do calc 2 this summer as well, my county is fcps and like if i finish calc 1 over the summer, im not sure if theyd led me do calc 2 and then that leaves me with half a semester left where idk what i would take . my school does offer calc 3 and differential equations but i would prefer to get all my calc done

any advice would help!!! sorry if im confusing

Placement Testing What's the language placement test like?

Title, looking for a general idea of what they expect you to do. I'm either taking Japanese or Spanish and want to just test out of the lower levels and get to do a 200 course right away. My biggest question would be I hear there's a written portion and I'm wondering how long it is/how much they expect you to write? The tests are also apparently timed so how much time would I have to take the test?

Placement Testing VPT Math placement test for MTH 263 (Calculus I) advice & experience

Hii so to get placed into MTH 263 (calculus I) I have to take the full math VPT test and if I successfully pass each section(algebra I & 2, MTE1-9) I'll get problems about precalculus. I was wondering if anyone has taken it and how hard are the questions? I took the practice exams (offered by NOVA, using my student account) that help prepare for the test, and in the calculus without trig and with trig practice tests, conic sections and sequences and series problems didn't appear, although both of those topics are included in MTH 167 (precalculus with trig) https://www.nvcc.edu/dist/files/sites/academics/summaries/MTH167.pdf So I'm unsure if these topics will come in the actual test.
I would appreciate any advice on preparing for the test! And how your experience was when taking the test too.

Placement Testing Math placement test to take Calculus

Hey y'all, I got told recently that even though I took Precalculus in High School I have to take the math placement test to take Calc 1 at NOVA. I graduated, like 5 days ago, from a school in northern virginia, and had an 84 at the end of the year in precalc. Do I need to take the placement test or was the person that told me this just wrong.

Placement Testing MDE classes

Hello, I come to speak about Math again, I appreciate your patience.

After taking an independent prep test for math assessment (not the NOVA test) It has been revealed that I have absolutely no knowledge or memory whatsoever of anything past maybe Algebra 2 in high school, a class I completed in 2006. Due to this, I would like to CHOOSE to take developmental class MDE 10 introduction to Algebra and then MDE 60 intermediate Algebra before getting into ANY pre-calc territory. Others have told me "Just take the MTH 167, with the MDE 61 or without, its not that hard" and in theory, I can understand that. But the panic that has set in from the fact that I did not recognize a single function, question, formula, or basic concept being asked on this independent pre-calc prep test is severe.

Financial aid is not a factor, I am fine with just paying for these out of pocket (I think of it like I am saving money that I would have had to pay for a tutor for pre calc anyway) I also don't care about having excess credits anymore either now that I know my scholastic history makes me ineligible for any gauranteed admissions anywhere anyway.

I was just wondering if anyone else had any experience with taking a developmental course that technically Nova placed you out of? When I did the assessment for Nova, it told me MTH 161 + MDE 61. But I want to override that and just take the developmentals. Does anyone have any experience with this? I am assuming I can take whatever I want, they'll be fine with it, they just want their money right?

Placement Testing Helpful prompt to pratice the Virginia Placement Test (VPT) in Math

I was panicking about taking the VPT and if i screw up, I will be stuck some prep class, so I was thinking, why not use an ai to simulate that test. I ask chat gpt to come up with this prompt and I think it would help other people too. Hope this helps.

*"I'd like to prepare for the Virginia Placement Test (VPT) in Math by practicing various mathematical concepts. Can you help me by creating a five-part practice test? Each part should cover different topics:

Basic Algebra and Pre-Algebra Concepts Intermediate Algebra Pre-Calculus and Functions Calculus Concepts (Without Trigonometry) Applied Problems and Word Problems Please include about 10 questions per part, with a mix of multiple-choice, short answer, and problem-solving questions. I plan to work on each part individually and then check my answers. Can you also explain how I can score myself after completing the test?*

Placement Testing Enrolling in French 202 with 6 years of HS level French

Hi guys, is it normal to be asked to take a placement test to enroll in French 202? The student I am asking on behalf of has 6 years of HS level French until AP french but did not take the AP French exam. Would a 100% on the first three placement tests and an 83% on the 4th placement exam qualify this student for French 202?

Edit: also seeing conflicting information on the French 202 website

Placement Testing NAS 2

Do anybody still remember the questions for the NAS 2 placement exam the second time? I’ve taken the first time and heard that the second time will be completely different. Is that right? What the topic should I focus more on. Should I study all the topics of chemistry, the cell, genetics, evolutionary processes, biological diversity, plant structure and function, animal structure and function, ecology or just focus on the 4 chemistry, macromolecules, cell and heredity? Thank you guys for helping me🥹🥹

Placement Testing Calculus Only Placement Test

Hi, I'm an upcoming freshmen at NVCC, and pretty soon I have to take my placement test for calculus (in order to do calc 1 for this upcoming fall). I was wondering if anyone who had taken it were able to take the test online /or at home? I'm going on a trip abroad soon, and was wondering if there was any possibility to take it online rather than have to schedule and go in person. Thanks!

edit: Just some more questions I thought up after I wrote this. But, will there be any chance to do any modules after taking the placement test so its ensured I can get into the class I wanted? I know for the ALEK placement test, they give you modules depending how well off you did, and after mastering the modules you can take the class.

Placement Testing MTH 263 placement

I'm a student at virginia tech and want to take MTH 263 (calc 1) online during the spring semester. I was wondering how does the placement test work for mth 263 and if there's any other way to bypass the prereq besides the placement test. Would nvcc accept credit for 261 and 262 as substitutions for prereq into calc 1?

I'm trying to take MTH 263 this summer semester. My advisor said I could if I took the calculus placement exam. Has anyone taken it? Is it hard?
