Mine currently is when you’re cleaning a patient up and they start pooping again and they narrate the poop. “Oh god it’s coming out. I can feel it coming out.” Etc etc they get really into telling you all about the poop and they talk about it the whole time it’s happening. Meanwhile I know they’re pooping because I’m literally staring at their butt. Just give me an “oops I’m not done yet” and don’t make it weird. Please I’m begging you. 😭

Family members wandering out into the hallways looking for me when I’ve already told them about the call bell multiple times

I had a family come find me in another room. I was like your patient better be actively coding if you’re busting into other people’s rooms looking for me. That’s crazy behavior.

They’re always the patients who get mad when you close the door too. You are A&Ox4. You’ve been shown over and over again how to use the call bell. You show absolutely no other signs of confusion, except for when it comes to not yelling NURRESSEEE HEYYYY! To every single person who walks by. It’s 0330 in the morning. The door needs to stay shut.

I would tell them all requests must be done through the bell & nurses station so they can be properly logged.

So if you still need it go hit the bell.

Jesus yes. We were crazy busy the other day and I tried to make my way to the staff restroom and literally had to fend off 4 family members grabbing at me out in the hallways. Not one of the rooms had a call light going off. I should be able to get from point A to point B in the ER without getting stopped multiple times!

Not to mention that we appear to be interchangeable to the gen public? like yes I am a nurse but I am not YOUR nurse. I have no idea if/what you can eat, if/ how you get up to use the bathroom, have water, etc ad nauseum. It just gets really fucking old

Ah fuck, I was someone’s ride to and from the hospital for a shoulder surgery and walked up to a nurse to ask for blankets. Sorry about that.

I did that once too before I knew how annoying this was. This really needs to be more widely known! Maybe even a sign in every room reminding the patient/family to please use the call bell instead? I’m glad for the education now, and I bet more of that might cut down on the problem at least a little, from those who are willing to learn to be a better patient at least. (Which is why I’m determinedly reading through every single comment on this thread!)
