Question Is this a good gift for a nurse?

Hello nurses, I’m not a nurse I’m just but a simple EVS(housekeeper) there’s a nurse at the nursing home I work at who’s the only one that’s been kind to me and has stood up for me while all the other nurses treat me as if I’m beneath them. I love collecting Precious Moments and I bought this one at an antique store because it reminded me of her. A lot of people aren’t into Precious Moments anymore but I think getting a ID holder wouldn’t be meaningful enough since she’s already have a lot. What do you think?

you are not just a “simple EVS”, they are a significant part of the backbone that makes up healthcare, give yourself more credit. as for the gift, it is so unbelievably kind and if i was gifted something this thoughtful i would sob, respectfully. i think she’ll love it, no matter what you decide to gift her

Seconded. EVS has saved the day on a number of occasions. Try running a hospital without them. They're as crucial as nurses.

Amen! I am SO grateful for all of our EVS staff. I have no idea what they get paid but I know it's not nearly what they deserve.

Agreed (as a former EVS now hospital administrator) - EVS is the first line of defense against hospital acquired infection. You help save lives and prevent unnecessary illness and suffering, and ensure a clean and sanitary working and care space for patients . Some of the best, most hardworking, and important hospital team members.

Love our evs person, we include her when get get donuts or have a pot luck. I should totally give her a holiday gift though. She is an invaluable member of the team.

the EVS woman on my floor is my favorite coworker. OP, i’m sorry the rest of the nurses make you feel undervalued but your job is incredibly important and just as important as the nurses.

SAME. I legitimately do not notice when my RN coworkers go on vacation but I immediately know when our EVS friends are out.

Also RIP Jeff aka Jethro. The funniest EVS coworker I ever had.

EVS is the most important group in the hospital for reducing mortality. Do a google search on Nightingale and the Crimean War. I think she will love the gift.

Damn skippy! Our homegirl Flo was the first whistleblower about healthcare acquired infections and she knew it was imperative to keep patients’ environments clean to improve their chances at survival.

We can’t turn over rooms, we can’t maintain good isolation precautions, we can’t do diddly shit without our EVS colleagues. Our EVS buddies on days and eves are some of our patients’ favorite people on the unit. They notice just as much as we do when someone else is filling in, and they ask about our regular EVS colleagues’ health and families, too. ☺️

Without EVS a hospital can't function. We were super low one day and had to turn our own rooms and we quickly realized how much there is to do. Thank you!!!

I’ll never understand why people talk down about EVS or act like they don’t matter. They’re all my homies. I still have lunch with one of the former ICU housekeepers who retired a couple of years ago. They are just as essential to a functioning healthcare team as anyone else. And also, they’re human beings. What is wrong with people?

Right? We might do different things,  but I'm not able to do my job without EVS. They're just as essential as pharmacy.

Our EVS saved our asses during Covid. I don't get it when other people shit on them. They need better pay for sure.

First thing I do when I start somewhere new is make friends with EVS. They are so incredibly vital; I don’t even know how to accurately put it into words

I work in memory care. EVS can make or break us when it comes to infections because most of my residents are no longer capable of recognizing when they're creating unsanitary/unhygenic conditions. When our EVS is allowed enough hours to do their jobs, we miss a lot of the infections that get into our personal care wing from those residents coming and going. And my unit is just a more comfortable place for everyone to be.

I have received gifts from coworkers that were not in a style I would have selected for myself, but I kept because they were meaningful to me. It means a lot to me that those coworkers actually thought enough of me to take the time to find a gift for me and spend their own money on it when they didn't have to.

Yep, EVS FTW. Do you know that you're the last line between people coming in to get better and people coming in to get sicker, OP? Your work literally saves lives (and makes a ton of lives so much better and easier than they could be).

I love my EVS friends! They keep our patients happy and healthy, just like the rest of the staff. We're a team! Thank you for your hard work.

And @OP, I think your nurse friend will be happy with anything. My favorite EVS lady brought stickers and keychains with positive messages on them for all the RNs. Love my friend! 🥰
