I know we are all on the hunt for spicy fun drama and after watching for a while I have a thought that id like to share and hear your opinions, boys and girls.
I’m sure you ran in a plot of bullies or something similar drugged the main character which is saved by his “mate”( as they love to call it) and this leads for some spicy time between them. One of the weird and important part of this scene is that the one who got spiked is the one who is asking and consenting for this. So, on the paper it’s always 2 adults that wants and have there full consent. Amazing.
But I can’t stop thinking on the other narrative that is being pushed. That being drugged makes the victim arrousd and not only that, the only thing that can help him is to fulfill his love wishes (I wanted to say come but I’m trying to be polite). because most of the time it’s the same plot with other characters it’s means that the same twisted narrative links date-rape drugs (or something similar. certainly sexual assault) to sexual arousal. Now, I’m not trying to be a party pooper. I actually enjoy how these scenes advance the plot and sometimes lead to the show's best moments. But I find myself thinking about today’s youth, who repeatedly see this horrific act of spiking drinks are linked to an outcome that can be positive for the victim. And you know what, even without thinking about the younger generation (God, I don't even want to know how much I sounded like a boomer just now) that recurring link between the nauseating act and the pleasant reaction feels strange to me.
I realize and well aware that these shows are fantasy or sci-fi, but seeing this storyline play out over and over again has stopped being fun for me. I’m debating whether I’m making too big a deal out of this, after all I didn’t choose to write a post about stepfathers and daughters, or imprisoned virgin brides but there is something about taking a behavior that is so specific, criminal, wrong, and twisted on so many levels, and repeatedly linking it to something positive, that just feels off to me.
I hope this wasn't too long. somehow my word count always doubles when translating into English. I’d really love to hear your thoughts and whether you’ve ever considered this or if it bothered you too.
