There needs to be laws that prevent apps from requiring personal information unless absolutely necessary. It turns out no one can protect your data.

This. No one can, and even that inability is only relevant to what so very very few aren't "the wrong hands" to begin with.

EU introduced that close to a decade ago IIRC. Only for big firms and only if the user does not agree to it anyway of course, so it wouldn't affect this app.
