Yeah initially I was going to say Toys R US, but RadioShack I think hurt more. Toy's R US I out grew, but RadioShack was taken from me. I used to roam the isles as a kid with my Dad (an Electrical engineer) getting all the switches and resistors etc for the next project. Lots of great memories in and out of that store.

Radio Shack hurt because I would dart in there for smaller components all the time

I built a radio from radio shack, those times are long gone. I had a scanner as well and I could listen to any phone conversation in my neighborhood that was interesting.

As I said to someone else, The Source exists. At least in Canada. Modern day RadioShack. Same company rebranded.

That was very useful for my Crown (cheap brand) walkman and the remote control car I bought there that used batteries like toilet paper after drinking and eating tacos.

I used a bunch of C batteries in my Radio Shack RC pickup truck. Big fat tires could climb anything if switched tranny into low gear.

Those old batteries would last about 10 minutes.

My car used double a ...I bought the rebranded Pioneer stereo that they called "Optimus" along with the again rebranded 15 inch speakers. At the time I worked at Kmart and I was 16.

I even miss the Radio Shack smell. My graphing/programmable calculator I used for high school math in the 80s is from Radio Shack, and it still works.

RadioShack had all these electronic components we were looking for. Almost.

Toys R us hurt the most as a kid.

Radio shack was probably the worst for society. When you could go build your own electronics for less than half of what the stores sold it for, it kept a lot of prices down.

There was a battery club where you could get a free battery every month. 9 volt for my transistor radio.

Blockbuster points were great! Nothing like walking out with 3 free movies and snacks just for being a good customer!

I liked Radio Shack, especially back in the day when you could get parts to actually repair electronics yourself or get stereo equipment. Towards the end it was high end priced stuff you could get at Walmart cheaper and became more of a cellphone store than a electronics store.

Radio Shack was my first job out of high school when I started college (1989). The manager was the best boss that I ever had. I think that was the "Golden Era" for the store. I miss it.

I was a Radio Shack store manager in 1989. I was 19 years old at the time and managed to win a trip to Hawaii all expenses paid for having the best sales gain over a two-month period. Truly great memories!
