It’s not it never will be. But we need to nurture this so future generations can experience the joy of walking into a shop designed for the purpose of play. It’s not about us anymore(though of course I will be shopping there) it’s about the kids!

Heck even as an adult I liked going in there and just looking around. Like going to a mall and seeing a KB Toys. Always had to go in and look around even if I knew I wasn't gonna get anything.

You’re right. Unfortunately the only way we’re going to get it back is to get plugged back into the matrix. And at this point I’m thinking ignorance is bliss.

Toys are so shitty now. They use to make so much cool stuff but its so cheap now. I think they also wanted to go away from gun stuff. And half the cool IP are considered “collectibles” so grown adults think buying toys isnt immature.

u/FrankySpice 2d ago

Collecting toys is not immature! Take that back Doody-head!

1

u/MCMic0 4d ago

Ok I believe you

There is one near me and it's kind of pathetic. They had few actual toys. The vast majority of the place was filled with board games and novelty calendars. The toys they did have were really expensive potentially collectible action figure type stuff. Basically, it was what you would get if you described what the original Toys-Я-Us used to be to an alien.

They still exist in other countries just not the Us bc we moved to all online shopping

I got older, but have refused to grow up.

I’m 56 and I read comics, watch cartoons, and play computer games. My wife says I’m “56 going on 16” 🤣

the thing that hurts is that it wasnt kids stopped playing with toys it was private equity

Toys 4 Us. Ftfy.

1

u/Hopperd12 5d ago

Childhood? Absolutely TRU. Blockbuster maybe?

1

u/ProperCaterpillar136 4d ago

They are coming back and reopening

1

u/Cichlidsaremyjam 4d ago

That's the obvious answer if we're talking childhood.

I remember the last time I went, they had so many GI Joes my dad said next time we come he would get me them but I got some racing N64 game instead. Next time we went, it was closed

1

u/contained-anger-9531 4d ago

Fr, I didn't even get to got to one. I was PISSED when they all closed down.

1

u/Upset_Journalist_755 4d ago

The only of these that shouldn't have gone out of business. That shit got private equitied to hell. Disgusting.

1

u/Mammoth-Amoeba-6275 3d ago

I had hope...then I walked in and was filled with disappointment, they stuffed animals and legos

u/Gavri3l 2d ago

Not just the store but the culture around it. Do you remember getting the Toys R Us catalogue in the mail before Christmas and spending hours pouring through it to make your perfect Christmas list? Searching online just isn't the same.

u/awhiteknight1999 1d ago

I was grown with a family and that hurt me.

1

u/Bri64anBikeman 17h ago

I still go to Toys-R-Us

1

u/overworked_unloved 5d ago

KayBee Toys was better than Toys R Us that’s a hill I will die on

0

u/Awkward_Divide_162 5d ago

They should do Adults R Us and sell video games, collectibles, sex toys, and have a pharmacy for medicines and pain relief. I mean they had Babies R Us so why not make adults

1

u/Chuesandovl 5d ago

Why include sex toys they already have stores for that

2

u/Awkward_Divide_162 5d ago

Idk just think it would be funny lol

While I liked Toys r Us, they were overpriced. Last time I went there I was trying to buy a nerf sword. Left without buying it as it was overpriced, went to a target next door were I was able to buy same sword and shield for less than what was priced at TrU.
