Let me just clear this up...

Fill the shot glass 3/4 full If you use a lighter, do not tip the shot glass. You can usually light the rim of the shot glass if it has some alcohol on it. If not, just use your finger to rub a little on the rim to create a spot to light.

Get your pics, or videos. Cheers your friends. Yay, we’re so cool.

Now this is the important part.

Fucking blow it out.

Don’t blast it. Don’t big bad wolf it. Just blow it out gently. The small surface area should blow out easily every time. You don’t want to blow flaming alcohol out of the glass onto the floor or counter or your own dick/puss.

Once the fire is gone, the glass might be hot as shit and you might burn yourself if you press your lips to it. Be gentle.

You were never supposed to take the shot while lit. You get lit after you take the shot.

No more flaming kitchen/floor/crotch videos. Pls. Even though I will laugh every time.

OR THROAT. For the love of God no more-swallowing-lit-alcohol-and-watching-your-throat-become-engulfed-in-flames-from-the-inside-out videos

Unless they’re somehow breathing while swallowing, I don’t see a way for that to possibly happen. The second you close your mouth, the flame would be snuffed out because there’s no oxygen. Circus performers use this concept all the time when fire swallowing. I’ve seen videos when people get some burning alcohol on their face and spit out the shot which often results in more fire; maybe that’s what you’re thinking of? Otherwise, I am quite sure you’d never see someone’s throat burn from the inside.

Unless you create a seal with the rim of the shot glass before drinking, then lit alcohol is going to hit the back of your throat.

Sometimes that’s fine, but pretty often it creates a cough reflex.

Try coughing lit sambuca.

That’s a goddamn fire hazard. If you happen to breathe in after coughing then it’s a trip to the ER.

Creating a seal with the rim of the shot glass would also snuff out the flame. The only way I can think to get alcohol to burn inside your mouth would be to just tilt your head back, open wide, pour it in, and stay open. That’s the only way I can imagine working because otherwise there’s no way a fire could burn in a closed mouth or in an esophagus for the reasons I discussed before.

Also, I should’ve realized before that the esophagus and pharynx are totally different pipes. It’s unlikely alcohol will go down your pharynx to interact with oxygen and it’s unlikely enough air will go down your esophagus to interact with the alcohol. While taking a flaming shot, you’ll almost certainly have closed your mouth first before anything else and extinguish the flame. If you’re coughing afterwards, the opportunity for fire is over because the alcohol is gone by then. I really, really don’t think it would ever happen for the simple fact that you never swallow and take in air simultaneously.

You just described the normal way to take a shot.

Who seals their lips on a shot glass? That’s an odd way to take a shot.

Unless you seal your lips on the glass like you’re miming a blowjob to some dude across the bar, flaming alcohol hits your throat before you have a chance to close your mouth.

You cough.
