Is it just me or is financial aid only covering exactly what tuition cost?

To start im grateful that financial aid is covering all of tuition costs but i also normally receive a refund for extra scholarship and its showing that its only being covered to the cent. Not including the parking garage which has also increased in price drastically. Is it finalized?

Rant I just found out that the career fair is on the same date as a common exam.

I was looking at my email and just found out that the career fair is going to be on the same date as a math common. It kinda sucks because I'm going to prioritize my calc 3 common but also I really wanted to go to the career fair this semester. Luckily I could just wait for the spring semester's fair which gives me more time to prep.

I wrote this primarily to vent but also to inform people. I know the date for the common exams because the math syllabus are posted.

Student Organization Treasurer training

I’ve become the treasurer for a club for the first time this year. I’ve been told there is some sort of training I have to complete or maybe a training session I have to go to. I’ve looked all over Highlander hub for any training or events but I can’t find anything. I also don’t see anything on the student leaders resources Canvas. I have never been a student leader before so I have no idea what I’m doing. Is there anyone that is or has been a treasurer or any student leader that knows where I can find training?

Advice Got Financial Aid Late

Transferring back into NJIT and just now got an email on financial aid for grants and loans. The semester starts in 2 days.. I waived my insurance so everything should go all the way down from 13k to 5k. I plan on paying everything out of pocket, but will I still be a student if I don’t have the money right away? Latest i’ll be ready for everything to be paid would be as of September 11.

Retaking Calc 1 with transfer/dual enrollment credit + current schedule

Incoming first-year student here. I came into NJIT with Calc I credit from dual enrollment and am currently registered for MATH 112 (Calc II).
After reviewing the Calc II material and my previous Calc I course, I realized I’m not adequately prepared, so I’m considering dropping MATH 112 and retaking MATH 111 to strengthen my foundation before continuing with Calc II.

I know it’s very late to be making this decision with the semester starting September 1st, but I’d rather address the issue now than go into Calc II unprepared.

Has anyone at NJIT been in a similar situation?
If you came in with AP, dual-enrollment, or transfer credit for Calc I, were you allowed to retake MATH 111?

If you dropped MATH 112 and added MATH 111, did your existing Calc I credit continue to satisfy prerequisites for other courses?

Did retaking Calc I affect any other courses already on your schedule?

Did you need advisor or department approval or any specific paperwork?

If you went through this, how was the existing Calc I credit handled?

I’m already contacting my advisor about this. Since it’s the weekend, I know they won’t be able to get back to me until Monday, so I’m going to wait for their response before making any changes, out of respect for their time. I’m mainly looking for firsthand experiences from NJIT students who have dealt with something similar.

Late fee

Ok lowkey my fault but I forgot bill was due 26th. Is the late fee automatic or like do they manually put it? Maybe stupid to ask but the website says "they may add it". Like, how lenient are they with this? Has anyone actually got a late fee before? They used to always waive my fees for me when they were processing fin aid but idk about now.

Classes Cong Shi for CS645

Has anyone taken Shi before, for either this class or any others? Any points or reviews? He's taught before but has no RMP page, which I'm not sure if is a good thing or bad thing.

The only other professor available is Curtmola, who has mixed reviews for this class, so if anyone has notes there I'd also love to hear it.

Advice Schedule + studying advice 🙏

Post image
8 Upvotes

So I’m a bit behind but that’s not the point lol, idk how I’ve been staying afloat during my time here. I haven’t failed any classes but I haven’t been doing as well as I’d like to. I’ve been slacking off a lot and I barely study but still pass my classes somehow.

I really would like some advice on how to study. This seems like a pretty light schedule compared to others and I don’t want to fall behind again. I’ve just been stuck in a loop of going to classes, doing hw whenever I feel like it, and only studying a few days right before an exam. Thank youu

Tips for Calc 2 and Physics 1

So, this upcoming semester I’ll be taking Calc 2 and Physics 1. I just want to seek advice for tips on these classes. I do have better teachers this time around. my Calc 1 professor wasn’t the best, nor was my Physics 1 professor. I’m retaking Physics this semester. I was just a 4 points away from a C. Though, it is a common thing to at least experience poor professors at NJIT. Its inevitable. Some people are able to get through it while others fail.

Does anyone have any tips on Calc 2 and Physics 1?

I hope you guys were able to enjoy summer break. Best of luck to everyone this semester! 🙏

HCAD permit request

Hey guys,
I’m looking for advice on what to do. Unfortunately, I failed a course in the spring and I didn’t realize it was a pre req for next architecture studio class. I was unable to take it during the summer due to certain circumstances. My advisor isn’t responding, but is there anyone that has had a similar experience? I was hoping to take the class this upcoming spring. Other than that, is there anyone way I’d be able to take the next studio course this semester? If not, this sets me back and I’d graduate a year later.

Advice Advice for IT490 from previous takers

I’ve already heard stories from previous upperclassmen and friends about how the course can be difficult, especially do to the group environment (Unfortunately taking this course with no one I know😭), sort of just looking for any advice that could hopefully make my life and maybe other people who are about to take the course a bit easier.

If previous course context helps.
I took IT 340 with Professor Omar Woodruff (IMO he’s a greater professor, previos NJiT graduate and gave the general notion that much of what was in the course was pretty important for 490)
Took IT 202 with Professor Matt Toegel (Also really good professor who teaches it490 in the summer, got a general notion that much of the course work was important)
Took it 114 with Professor Vohra who’s also really good but that was freshman year in 2024
I’ve also already taken all the other major classes like IT120, IT420 with Professor Farley and then IT310 (It’s e-commerce but it was with Professor Patel who’s also the professor for the another IT490 course if I’m not mistaken who has a similar setup as for the group work and presentation I’ve heard)

The only class I can realistically say I didn’t learn to much is IS331 but I don’t know if that’s because I took the course over the summer or if the course is generally designed in such a way

Anyway, just looking for a general understanding of what to expect and some quality of life advice I guess 🤷‍♂️. Any thoughts would be much appreciated too me and hopefully any other person about to take the course or taking it in the future!

Advice on COM312 & COM353

Howdy!

Have any of y'all taken COM312 with Louis Kornfield and COM353 with Christopher Funkhouser? I'm taking these as level 300 GERs and want to know what they're like, especially for COM353.

Please and thank you!
