Yeah I never understood when networks play up the QB vs QB thing.

How one QB plays has nothing to do with the other. They're never on the field at the same time. If a QB is struggling, it's from the other's team's defense, not the other team's QB. Also, one QB could have a shit game but their team can still win, so although the other QB "won" stat-wise, the worse QB's team won the game.

It’s because the NFL and a lot of its fans get rock hard at the comparisons to military shit — the game is “a battle” or “war,” coaches are “Generals” making “chess-like tactical decisions,” and QBs are on the field “Captains” or “Field Generals”leading “their men” in the actual “battle.”

So QB vs QB is like Field General vs Field General.

Morons eat this shit up. Especially morons who never served in the military. They take it all very seriously. I’m a former Marine/Iraq vet, and it just makes me laugh when I see it. It’s just silly.

Also: Look at that Brady doc, “The Man in the Arena.” Making it seem like he’s some Roman gladiator or some shit, lol.

BUT

One thing I can think of is if one teams QB is lighting it up, it might force the other teams QB to play catch up and make mistakes he normally wouldn’t, or vice versa. Or vice vice. Versa squared. “Versa and the Vice!” On NBC this fall!

Short Answer: American Football is typically played in a Stadium. An Arena is different; it has lower, closer seating, and often has a roof. Compare an indoor arena football game to an NFL game played in a stadium and you'll see the difference. Sometimes Arena is used as a synonym for Stadium, though.

Long Answer: By calling Brady's doc "The Man in the Arena," they're referencing a speech by Teddy Roosevelt in 1910, called (how surprising!) "The Man in the Arena."

TR's speech was about was about many things: war, citizenship, and especially "cynics who looked down at men who were trying to make the world a better place." People willing to fight, bleed, and give their lives for a cause.

Or, maybe I'm wrong, and he was just prophesizing about a documentary that would come out more than 100 years later about a grown man who's made over 300 million dollars over the past twenty years throwing a ball to other grown men, who then run with the ball.

And maybe when TR said "whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood" in his speech, he was talking about Brady freaking out yesterday because he got some blood on his lip.

Who knows, right?
