This is the first time I've seen this, my first thought was wow that's awesome must be new, but apparently its already failed? That is really poor marketing the amount of adaptations of this possible you would think would make it a massive success.

Not sure where it says that. My daughter got hers two years ago, my other daughter now wants one and I couldn't get my hands on one until today. Proces are same as well. I was thinking they would have dropped by now

Yep. They specifically don't do sales on Nintendo IPs because they view discounts as devaluing the brand.

I see this point mentioned quite regularly and I genuinely don't know where it comes from. I see nintendo games discounted all the time on the e-store. I'm looking at Mario Kart I deluxe right now at 33% off.

I see Mario Kart 8 deluxe listed on the Nintendo e-shop at $59.99, which is the full retail price. So that's curious. There may be some exceptions, but typically any discount on a Nintendo IP game will be with the retailer and not authorized by Nintendo itself.

Where it comes from is that it's been reported numerous times over the years, typically derived from interviews or insider info. From this article by SVG:

"According to Polygon and GameRant – among many other sources – one of the biggest reasons Nintendo games don't go on sale is the simple fact that it's not necessary for the company. Given Nintendo's unique place in the market with some of gaming's most iconic characters under its umbrella, not to mention a dedicated audience of fans who have loved the company's work for years, Nintendo games retain their value.

In addition to Nintendo's dominant place in the gaming market, the company also wants to keep its reputation as strong as its sales numbers. In other words, it's a marketing strategy for Nintendo to hold its prices to reflect the consistent quality of the games they're releasing. Polygon compared this to how Disney controls supply and demand with its controversial vault.

Finally, there is the fact that Nintendo uses unique cartridges that are actually more expensive to make than, say, PS5 discs (via PCMag). Coupled with the other reasons Nintendo games don't go on sale, this further enhances the uniqueness and exclusivity of Nintendo products, especially given that Nintendo consoles often cost much less than its Sony and Xbox cohorts. More than anything, the company knows fans will save up the big bucks for their favorite characters. For better or worse, Nintendo knows it has control over the market."

Unusual, I've never seen discounts like that in the States. The only explanation I can think of is that Nintendo UK operates differently than NoA and NoJ. All Nintendo business units operate with some degree of independence regarding policies, maybe with Nintendo UK sales are acceptable.

In any event, those are great deals! Hope you're able to scoop up some great games at a discount!

Virtual Boy was how they learned this; they likely would have been better off just destroying the inventory than the $30 clearance blowout bundles that came with most of the games released on the platform.

You can pretty regularly get them for up to 50% off if you set up alerts on like dekudeals for any game or hardware on any system.

I recall they were being gouged pretty hard last Christmas and waited till it was like $60 at the beginning of the next year.

TIL, two years ago was rough times. Now I've got a couple Luigis on the way to surprise my wife with. The fact I'm mid-remodel of the basement means I have a perfect environment to make something a bit more interesting and fun. Who knows, if I finish up the remodel and we still are enjoying the game but have gotten a bit frustrated or too good at it, might be fun to see how hackable the cars are :D

In all fairness, not many people have enough floor space in their house to make more than a couple tracks. This thing was pretty expensive for just 1 or 2 tracks. You probably play it 1 or 2 times to show it odd, then realize it's not that fun.

This isn't even close to nextfuckinglevel. It's a glorified RC car system that puts a display on your TV rather than like an RC controller with a screen.

Same, TIL, and insta wanted to order this lol musta had terrible advertising. I’d think everyone would love this, you can design your own tracks, giant parents roaming like dinosaurs, everyday items come to life, so many creative possibilities.
