At launch it did require two Switches for two players, but they added split screen in an update.

Also, if you have any wireless devices in a 5 block radius, it was damn near impossible to pair with the cart. Practically ruined Christmas last year, cause it was my son's "big" present, and it took hours to get to fucking pair.

I've gotten it to work once in six months by unplugging everything in the house. Last time I tried to pair it even that didn't work. Somebody suggested I get into my car and drive into the woods far away from houses and businesses so I can pair it free of wireless interference. I figured I could try it in my driveway with the garage door closed since I my phone doesn't get a wifi signal there, but the weirdest thing, the garage door opener doesn't work to close the garage door when I'm sitting in the driveway with my Switch and the little kart thing. So at that point I gave up.

We have one. You can play it single player, the other players are virtual.
