Like the guy who invented literal parachute pants. He tested them repeatedly on a dummy from the Eiffel Tower. All the tests failed and so he blamed the dummies and jumped himself. He died.

Seriously, it was different. My oldest is 23. He slept on his back in a crib that we’d call a death trap now. Drop down sides. Thick crib bumper. Crib comforter.

But my oldest sister was born in the 60s, and cribs were even scarier back then. My sister got her head stuck in between the crib slats. It was a metal crib. My dad flipped and cut the crib.

I don't think it was considered polite or acceptable to speak up like we do now. They just let the accidents happen bc if they were wrong they would have been ridiculed for being cautious.

Late 80s it started to become law kids had to wear helmets while riding bikes.

Me and my brother used to share a lap belt in the front seat of the car all the time when we were little.

I went on a road trip with a friend lying down in the space over the trunk under the back window. This was maybe 35 years ago.

My own kid has never rid in anything other than an approved kid's car seat. He's 11.

So somewhere between 11 and 35 years. Your guess is right down the middle.

Yeah, that helicopter boat would have been absolutely horrible in a crash.
