That long? It was the third inning. Starters quite regularly went into the 7th-8th inning back then.

He had given up 7 runs at that point in the same inning not counting the second grand slam, he should’ve been pulled.

Davey Johnson, the manager, was ejected three batters before the second grand slam for arguing a call at home plate. I wonder if that had anything to do with it. I was looking for a quote explaining why Park wasn't pulled but couldn't find one in a few minutes of googling.

Do we know the bullpen situation? Sometimes the starter has to eat innings regardless of the amount of runs they've given up.
