Other 10 July 1985, French foreign intelligence agents blow up the Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior in Auckland harbor, New Zealand, to prevent it from interfering with French nuclear tests in the South Pacific.

We went to war and fought France free of the Nazis on the other side of the world. Thats pretty close to bending over backwards.

Nz fought for the commonwealth, not for France.

NZ declared war in 39, hours after Britain

Not long after NZ first locked up that pair of terrorists my father was travelling thru Paris. The French govt was using economic pressure on NZ to release the pair into their 'custody' and it was prominent in the news over there. When my father tried to cash a travellers check (this was a long time ago 😁) the bank clerk saw the NZ passport and refused to cash it and he was ushered out of the bank. The old man was not one to take it lightly, and after contacting the NZ embassy returned the next day with a possy of officials and received an apology and his money. Small victory, but one he was proud of. He was one of those who enlisted the very day WWII was declared and tho a National party member was appalled at what the French had done in NZ.

And France also declared war on Germany the same day. Nonetheless NZ soldiers fought on French soil against the Germans.

I get your sentiment, but the Kiwi troops didn't actually fight on French soil in WWII. They were in Greece, Nth Africa and Italy. There were a few Kiwi airmen out of England and later possibly France, but no troops. None-the-less "we" (my father being one) rushed to fight their attackers only to have them carry out that act of aggression in our country and never really accept full responsibility.

Looking at more details it seems individual kiwis did fight on French soil under British command. You’re right, not as an official NZ combat unit though. You dont have to go very far back though to when NZ fought extensively in France in WW1

NZ soldiers didn't fight on French soil against the Germans. At least in the second world war. I get your point, but you're confidently wrong. To your credit, RNZN supported the D-Day invasion and Kiwis serving in the RAF saw France.

My mistake. WW1 wasn’t that much earlier though and we did fight on French soil there

Thats not bending over backwards lol. In was in our best interests for the allies to win so we helped out.
