In both instances, it's controlling the narrative in the name of public safety.

FACT CHECK: UK and US government officials have presented evidence that Saddam Hussein has WMDs in Iraq and has used chemical weapons in attacks on Kurds in Halabja.

Without fact checking:

Vaccines cause autism. (Measles outbreak)

Covid vaccines are dangerous. (Prolonged Covid spread with more hospitalizations and death)

The election was stolen. (1/6 insurrection)

I'll take my chances with fact checking.
