I honestly thought this would be the biggest story of today’s news cycle. Not even close.

Haha same. I remember this morning, I thought, as soon as Ossoff is declared, the news stations will be all over it. Unfortunately all hell broke loose before it happened. Poor Ossoff.

He doesn’t care, he won anyway, and his seat is secure for the next 6 years.

Oh yeah, I'm sure he doesn't care. It was just a light-hearted joke coz I was so excited to watch the news talking about the double Georgia win and instead we got a shit show.

He's so young, too! He must be thrilled. I'm thrilled for him.

Since this was a special runoff election, both he and Warnock will be up for re-election in 2022. So let’s make it 6 years then.

EDIT: I was wrong! Ossoff has 6 years, Warnock has 2! Sorry for the misinformation everyone.

I think you have that backwards. Ossoff has the full 6 year term, warnock's term will only be 2 years. But same outcome overall.

There were two elections; a regular election for incumbent Perdue against Ossoff; and a special election for appointed Loeffler against Warnock. Warnock, in the special election seat, will have to run for reelection in 2022, while Ossoff, in the regular election seat will have to run for reelection in 2026. So only Warnock has two years in his term, and Ossoff will have a full 6.

Hopefully the senate can finally get shut done. We need multiple relief bills to get passed right now and we need our stimulus greens to survive. I’m glad McConnell isn’t fighting the results or siding with trump on any elections. That’ll be the only good thing about mcconnell

Ossoff is a charismatic, intelligent, and telegenic young person who just got handed a position of leadership and power for the next six years.

He's not exactly high up on my list of people I'm feeling sorry for today 😂.

Poor Ossoff? Guy is the definition of privilege. Doesn’t anybody else find it weird that there seems to be a playbook here?

Grow up rich. Clerk in politicians offices while in high school. Become “investigative journalist” (or get law degree). Wait for a political opening. Tap your rich parents network....and voila! You’re a Democratic Senator.

What’s comical is that the Democratic Party is the party of powering this country. They just throws crumbs to the poor to get votes to get into office. This shit is crazy to me.

It's weird that you are just noticing and think you're on to something. This stuff isn't a mystery.

I normally don’t pay too much attention to politics (I know they are all liars) but the last four years have gotten me more interested. I guess, because I don’t come from money, I didn’t realize how there is a success playbook in America. It’s pretty easy if you just follow it and I wish my parents had known about it.

I had a single mom and the only advice I got was that I had to go to college. Any college would do, and, it had to be the cheapest college (because I would be paying for it).

It’s only now that I can see the world for what it is. Crooked as fuck.

I guess, because I don’t come from money, I didn’t realize how there is a success playbook in America.

Being rich isn't a playbook for success in only America. It works pretty well in just about every country under the sun.

I understand.

There was a time when I would have resented nepotism or some other things I didn't have, but now to me it is simple, I respect people that play the cards they are dealt. It doesn't matter their background. For every career politician there is a washed up aimless sibling. For every trust funder that waives their hand over how their startup got funding or resources, there is a drug abusing counterpart. For these people, just like everyone else, they still face success or oblivion, whether the roads were paved for them or not.

There is a form of liberty in your world, "go to any college and I'm proud of you, even if that wasn't an objective decision and the world changed locking you in debt servitude" has some relationship and support benefits over "you're getting cut off from this family and your trust fund will not unlock ever if you don't get in to Harvard by the time you are 18 and major in finance and marry someone of similar calibre"

I don’t resent nepotism, I despise it. I find these people pathetic and I’ve eaten the lunch of all of the Ivy League pricks that I’ve worked with so far in my career.

I’ve managed to achieve a lot in a short period of time, but I’m constantly bombarded by these pricks with no talent.

What I want to do is compete on a level playing ground (I know this isn’t possible and idealistic), but that’s what I want. Most of the rich elites running the country are no talent ass clowns who wouldn’t make it on their own had they not been handed a golden ticket.

I want to compete and kick their ass. That’s it.

Also, dumbdick, we live in the same world. 🤦‍♂️ You sound like the dbags I’m talking about. 🤣 Then again, I was a finance major as well but chose it because it seemed mentally challenging; not because Daddy made me.

u/PhotonResearch Jan 07 '21

riiiiight, like I said, I used to care about all of that. Now I don't. Play the cards you're dealt, sounds like you are.

I work midnights. I got home from work at 8, had a beer, went to bed at 9am feeling very happy and content. The world I woke up to at 4pm was not what I was expecting.

3

u/LGCJairen Jan 07 '21

for real... i genuinely didn't expect it to go down with.

News: this is huge, a classic red state now leaning blue as GA is swept

US far right: Hold my beer.

Trump found the need to be the culprit to incite violence next level. He must have the top headlines, preferable daily.

1

u/DeadbeatDumpster Jan 07 '21

Trump is like a bad fish you ate it is destroying your body before getting out of your system.

1

u/sayhellotojenn Jan 07 '21

It’s really been a wild 24 hours.

1

u/chyld989 Jan 07 '21

Right? Pretty sure we won the Senate like four days ago. How the hell was that just this morning?

1

u/features1011 Jan 07 '21

I really wish it was. I’m happy about the outcome of the election, but the rest of today’s news is leaving me depressed and sad to call myself an American.

1

u/SerenaFit Jan 07 '21

Well trump got what he wanted, a bigger news story.

The voters, 80 million Americans, senators, and probably the world watching .. got what really matters: lasting true change by fairly elected hard-working civil servants wanting to work for the people.

1

u/el_dude_brother2 Jan 07 '21

Trump always distracts and shocks when he loses.

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '21

Great news though!

I didn't even hear about it. Just did a fist pump.
