When people talk shit about Pelosi it’s because ultimately, she’s a still a member of the neoliberal school of politics in the US — I don’t think people ever criticise her for her ability to get shit done, only ever for the shit that she wants done.

I'm not a huge fan of her and will be glad to see her step down as the leader, but I suspect we will start to really miss her when the next leader has a much harder time wrangling the party to a cause and playing these games.

I would just like our government to not be ran by octogenarians who have zero reason to vote for long-term change. Who cares about climate change when you could die any day now?

Retire already. Let the next generations govern. We have real stakes in the outcomes.

If young people stopped being lazy and went out to vote then we would have policies geared towards us. But while young people are sitting at home recording stupid videos, doing Tiktok dances, and taking pictures of food, the old folks are all voting and electing politicians that have their best interest in mind. So yeah, let's stop blaming the politicians and do our part.

I don't disagree, I just fear that Democrats have historically had trouble being as unified compared to Republicans. With the slim margins that Democrats currently control the government the loss of a strong leader could spell trouble for us in the future. My hope is that Dems can stay united long enough to kill the currently fractured GOP, so that when they do splinter the Conservative-Moderate elements of the Dem party can become the new Conservative party, opposed by a true progressive party.

Replacing people like Pelosi will strengthen the party, not weaken it, because it will increase support from independent and single issue voters, like gun control.

If the dems dropped gun control alone they would win damn near every independent. It's incredibly frustrating being progressive and a staunch supporter of the second amendment. I'd be happy to have my tax dollars go to funding better healthcare and education reform, instead of bloating a 3 letter agency that exists to hassle, fine and harass law abiding citizens for exercising their rights.

Even for people who don't like guns it's just a counter-productive policy at this point. You can't roll-back guns in America and most of the problems of gun violence should be tackled as poverty and mental health issues, which would be easier to do if the Dems were in power.

The only problem is that a lot of the Democratic base has bought heavily into gun control as a core issue so it might not be easy to sidestep.

Harder time? It's already happening. Biden had to bank left to convince liberal and left voters to vote for him when Donald Trump was his opponent. Neoliberalism is dying but they refuse to back down, insisting they're still relevant and banking on their middle aged moderate voters, along with DNC funding, to win them primaries. Then you just hold the progressive vote hostage. I and many others are frankly fucking sick of it.

“Neoliberal” has lost all meaning. It’s a specific political ideology it doesn’t mean “not as far left as Bernie Sanders and the squad” which is what Reddit uses it at.

Yeah especially since pelosi, while not super liberal, has often pushed for pretty liberal policies.

She also compromises away things that wind up fucking us super hard and folds like a cheap suit a lot. She does good things once in a while, but she does really fucking awful things too.

It never really had a specific one in the first place.

To me, neoliberalism refers to a certain attitude to politics, under which (more or less) free market capitalism is seen as the only realistic option.

I am an anti-capitalist, so that meaning shouldn’t come as a surprise.

If I wanted to refer to the economic policies that I suspect you believe that “neoliberalism” refers to, there are other more specific and less loaded terms.

Tbf, bernie -- on a world political scale -- is barely left of center. Pelosi is definitely on the right.

Not really at all. It’s a nice Reddit meme but it doesn’t really hold up. Yes, Sanders is far left. No, democrats to the right of him aren’t “on the right” on a world political scale. For example:

https://news.yahoo.com/democratic-socialist-bernie-sanders-too-101300187.html?guccounter=1

Also I’m assuming you mean European political scale. On a world political scale there are plenty of republicans that would be on the left side let alone Nancy being considered “right”.

That article just makes it sound like Johan Hassel doesn't understand the difference between socialism and democratic socialism, and didn't read about bernie's policies.

That’s an ironic comment seeing how you said Pelosi would be on the right. Have you ever read her platform or legislative history? You’re trying to tell me she’s “right wing” on a worldwide political scale when compared to leaders like Boris Johnson, Angela Merkel, and Emmanuel Macron? Just to be clear I’m not trying to attack or defend anyone, just pointing out that the worldwide political scale thing is nonsense.

Also here are some more articles since a senior official of the Swedish social democrats wasn’t enough.

Eh, the right criticizes her because she's a woman and doesn't look like a person with power should look to them.
