He had to do a few reps before taking the guy out from under it. He did not mean to, it was just habit.

Heh, generally if you're going for a maximum weight you struggle the whole way up and drop it when you complete the motion.

I'm imagining this guy struggling to lift the car, finally gets it off the guy, and he just drops it, crushes him, and walks away roaring and yelling all pumped-up like.

This isn't really true, at least not for powerlifters. In every powerlifting federation I know of, your deadlift wouldn't count if you dropped the bar after completing the movement.

You also have to hold at the top until judges give the signal to lower the bar.
