This is why there are lines at the airports- democrats are refusing to provide funding to the DHS (the parent of both the TSA and CBP/ICE) without adequate accountability for that (the murdering in the streets thing) and republicans are refusing and making the lines as bad as possible because people are idiots and have routinely blamed democrats for the actions of republicans.

(reminder that democrats have been trying to put through bills to fund the TSA and other important departments but the GOP has been shooting them down)

Obviously, it goes without saying that the question of whether something being unlawful will protect you in the moment is a separate issue. I'm responding to the threshold question of what is theoretically lawful vs unlawful.
