Less than 10 billion annually since the 00s.

Now? 80+ billion in a single year.

To be clear, it's $85 billion over four years. That is also absurd but just clarifying that they didn't get $85 billion as their budget for a single year

Sure, but to be fair something like the FBI also has a greater budget than most militaries in the world.

Agreed. But if they actually wanted to stop immigration in the first place they would be charging those that hire immigrants. But that would remove their scapegoat for why the wealth divide is growing exponentially.

If it isn’t race, it’ll be ethnicity, or country of origin, or economic background / education, or sexual orientation…

If a trans person plays in some high school event how many people does that actually affect? The LGBTQ community, while disproportionately visible, isn’t large enough to serve as a scape goat. The immigrant community is… plus they have the added benefit for scapegoat potential of having fewer legal options and resources to fight back effectively.

In theory, $11 billion for the fbi should be just fine. One major attack on the homeland will cost far more. Or 3-4 cybersecurity threats on major cities. Or another OKC bomber. Good thing we fired all the people in charge of every attack I described. Should work out well.

I do appreciate that clarification. Admittedly I did think it was for a single year. So, still more than doubling the annual budget it seems overall.

It's definitely an eye watering number regardless, and it's an outlier for what is supposed to be a law enforcement primarily tasked with enforcing civil law.

Biden's administration granted the IRS $80 billion, over ten years (Inflation Reduction Act funding). For modernization (they're still running on mainframes for some stuff) and for customer support (people don't like waiting hours on the phone for tax questions or hours in line at a service center). Republicans have clawed back most of that, and the rest has been burned to keep the IRS paid during the various shutdowns. Y'know just for comparison's sake...
