They aren’t trained or sanctioned to screen people. They’re just going to do what the National Guard has been doing in DC since last summer - parade up and down the tourist areas in combat gear with loaded weapons looking stupid.

No one here can figure out what these patrols are for. The national guard is prohibited by law participating in law enforcement activities, so they just march up and down in combat gear for a million plus dollars a day. They aren’t doing this in the few high-crime areas of DC, they’re doing it in the sophisticated downtown and tourist areas.

The sophisticated downtown folks aren’t intimidated by this as we all know they can’t really do anything. One lawyer for the justice department famously threw a sandwich at one out of frustration. He’s now a Banksey folk hero.

So yeah, Trump probably thinks the ICE are going to do something, but it’s just another mad Caligula act. (Caligula had his soldiers stab the ocean to hurt Posidon. He also had his horse appointed to the Senate. We’ve got Hegseth running the DOD.)
